So, there's a thread about songs about driving, now it's time for a thread about driving songs. As in songs you like to listen to while you drive. This forum could use more music related threads. =P
My eventual goal is to create this giant playlist of songs that are just plain amazing to listen to while driving. What I want from you guys: list a couple songs that you love to listen to while driving and if you can, elaborate on why you like those songs as much as you do.
I'll start out by listing ten of my personal favorites. =)
1) Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms
Now, I have to admit that I've only very recently discovered this song. But the moment I heard it I was swept away by it and I can't help but paint this scenery in my head. Imagine: It's night time and it's just you, your vehicle, a long road ahead and pine trees on either side, far as the eye can see. Nothing to light the way but your headlights. That's what I picture whenever I hear the song, it's soothing, calm, just an amazing driving song if you don't want to go fast and just enjoy the trip.
2) Avenged Sevenfold - Dear God
Brothers In Arms makes me clear my mind and not really think about anything other than just driving and enjoying the road. Dear God, to me, does a pretty damn good job describing the feeling of being on the road for a long time and missing home. Which makes me love to listen to it while driving.
3) Bob Seger - Turn The Page
Very similar in vibe as Dear God. It's a song that really gives the vibe of somebody who's been on the road far too long. It's great.
4) Rev Theory - Hell Yeah
Let's turn it up and up the tempo a bit, shall we? Now, I got introduced to the song as the intro song for Blue Mountain State. But whenever this song comes up while I'm driving I just can't help but give it just that little bit of extra gas and start tearing up the road. It just gives me that kick in the ass that makes me want to go!
5) Within Temptation - Radioactive
This next song on my list is a cover of Imagine Dragon's Radioactive done by Within Temptation. Much like the previous song it makes my head go "IT'S GO TIME!" once the chorus kicks in. I suspect it's the beat of the drums and the faster tempo compared to the original. Whatever it is, it makes adrenaline rush into my veins.
6) An Cafe - Kakusei Heroism
Traveling to Japan for this one. I don't think it need much of an explanation. The vibe I get from this song is very similar to Radioactive and Hell Yeah. Just a song that makes you want to go.
7) The Offspring - Bad Habit
Ahhh, the perfect road rage song. Another song that just kicks your ass into gear and makes you be a bit stupid. But what would you expect with lyrics like "You stupid, dumb-shit, god damn motherfucker!"
8) Golden Earring - Radar Love
More love for Dutch artists (in case you didn't know, Within Temptation is a Dutch band as well). This is such a classic that it should be on every driving playlist. Maybe a bit obvious, but it's kinda mellow, kinda groovy and I just love it.
9) Metallica - Fuel
Does it really need any elaboration? Doubt it. Recently, well, a year ago or so, featured in the Dodge Predators Commercial. This song, for whatever reason reminds me very much of the smell of gasoline and burning rubber. And that's all the reason I need to like it for a driving playlist.
10) Jan Wayne - Because The Night
Let's depart from the rock and metal genres and move to... I don't actually know what genre this is? But I love the beat and I love listening to it while driving.
Bonus song: Miracle of Sound - Breaking Down The Borders
I highly recommend you check this guy out if you haven't heard of him. He makes amazing video game inspired songs and this particular song is inspired by the Borderlands games.
Those are ten of my favorites and boy was it hard to list only ten. I could really go on for a very long time =P Now, as you guys can probably tell I'm very partial to rock and metal. But hit me with good driving songs regardless of genre and let's see if we can create something beautiful.
