This page will be updated regularly with player information and anything I see on the internet.
GTA ONLINE MODDING STATUS
PC VERSION:
WHAT IS A MODDER? (For those newbies who just started gaming)
A modder is any player who uses a trainer or other modification to the game to either enhance or damage theirs and others experiences ingame.
ARE THEY BAD?
Generally, they do not cause much harm. However, recently GTA Online has been infected by a new wave of modders who seem to aim to damage other players experiences as much as possible. This includes money gaining and losses, vehicle changes and other forms of damage.
WHAT DOES ROCKSTAR CURRENTLY DO ABOUT MODDERS?
Any player found with modded files in their GTA V directly is immediately suspended. A player who receives money is immediately suspended. Rockstar also periodically sweeps all player accounts for modded money, and suspected hackers are investigated.
Trainers, which is the main form of modding right now, are external programs that modify GTA Online as it runs, so that Rockstar services cannot detect it. Rockstar generally use investigation methods to find players.
Innocents occasionally get banned. If this is you, open a support ticket on Rockstar's Support page.
HOW CAN I AVOID MODDERS?
Generally avoiding public lobbies is the best thing you can do. I have experienced a glitch which can let a player into an invite only lobby, however I haven't been able to recreate it.
There are a few cases where you need public lobbies for vehicle selling/sourcing and such. In this case, make a playlist with one race in it, play the playlist, restart it and back out of the lobby.
I HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY A MODDER. WHAT CAN I DO?
If your rank or money has been modified, make a support ticket on the Support website. Also report and vote to kick the modder and explain above.
This page will be periodically updated by myself, and any information regarding this current modding status should be posted here or PM'd to me.
This is by no means a method of getting anything pinned, this is a reminder to my fellow Nodo members and others about the current situation we have found ourselves in.
GTA ONLINE MODDING STATUS
PC VERSION:
- Currently extremely dangerous
- All players are reminded to remain in invite only/friends/crew/solo lobbies in order to be (mostly) safe from hackers and modders. This is not foolproof, some evidence has shown modders can glitch into these lobbies.
- Currently Bounties are disabled, as well as moving cars around your garages
- Most modders at the moment seem to annoy players and otherwise cause damage to their accounts
- If you are given money by modders, finish what you are currently doing and exit GTA Online using the character switch, as money can cause you to be suspended. (Apparently if you gain money and put it in the bank account you will be banned. Don't transfer into your account.)
- If your rank changes, also leave the session
- Any other suspicious behaviour must be reported in Pause - Online - Players - (insert player) - Report - Exploits/Cheating
- Any character items lost or gained should be removed/restored. Make a Support ticket on R* Support.
- NextGen safe, last gen not safe
- If you experience malicious or suspicious behaviour, report the player as above and leave the session, reporting may not punish the player on last gen
- As with above, last gen players should avoid modders, as some have been known to steal Xbox Live and PSN details
- Last gen is not currently policed by Rockstar, however character transfer has been eliminated so that you cannot transfer modded money to next gen or PC. This does not mean you shouldn't get money from modders (well it does), just be wary of how much you take and spend.
