NRLL
The World Cup™ Edition
The World Cup™ Edition
The World Cup™ has brought us together for many years. A prestigious competition, one that defines eras. Many countries have fought each other for the most prestigious and sought after title in the world. A title everyone dreams of, but only a few can achieve it. Dreams have been made and lost. Tears are shed, from sadness to joy. New legends born as the old fade away. All of that from just one tournament..
To celebrate The World Cup™, we will be trying to semi-recreate the world cup feeling in the third official NRLL tournament. The format is inspired by the real life group stage and playoffs method. Teams will also be inspired by their real life counterparts.
Now we ask ourselves the ancient old (by my standards) question. Do you have what it takes to become the next...
Grand Champion of NODO Rocket League...League?
I just realized that I never actually had a real league format in any of my rocket league events, but the name is just too hilarious.
Small note:
Due to recent forum rule changes, you can only reply a post if you are verified member of NoDo. My event doesn't require you to be verified, so if you have problems, just use the Messages system on the forum or the contact info below.

Rules:
-NoDo community guidelines apply like always.
-All platforms (PC, PS4, XB1) are allowed to enter*.
-Being a part of NODO is not a requirement. Everyone can join.
-You must be part of the NRLL discord server.
-No grand champions or champion IIIs allowed.
-Max MMR for each team is 3600. Helpful tool.
-Group stages are played as a BO5 (Best out of 5 games/First to 3 wins).
-Playoffs are played as a BO7 (Best out of 7 games/First to 4 wins).
-Finals are played as a BO9 (Best out of 9 games/First to 5 wins). The finals will be most likely streamed on Broughy's twitch channel.
-If a double eliminations bracket is used for the knockout phase, the team in the winners bracket can choose to play BO7 with bracket resets**.
-I have the right to change rules and the right to decide on things that could potentially change your tournament experience. This shouldn't really happen unless someone finds a big flaw in the rules. Mistakes happen.
-This tournament is for fun, don't take it too seriously.
*- Due to the fact that XB1 and PS4 players can't play against eachother, a special playoffs bracket will be made for the platform with the least amount of participants. A small change might be made to the format to allow the teams to participate in the main tournament anyway (For example, the real life situation with Kosovo and Serbia or Ukraine and Russia, where they were forced to play in separate groups).
**-The team entering from the losers bracket has to win two BO7s to win the tournament. The team from the winners bracket has to only win one.
How to play your match:
Matches are usually announced on Mondays. You have 1 week to complete your match. You can increase the time you have up to 1 week. Each team gets 14 days worth of extra time, but you can only use 7 for one match. Scroll down to see criteria.
With the help of discord, you and the opposing team will try to find a date that suits you both. Official matchdays are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturday. It is not mandatory to play on those days but it helps you get a discussion going.
When everyone is together and ready for the match, pick someone to create the match.

If someone is on another platform;
1. Click 'PLAY ONLINE'
2. Click 'JOIN PRIVATE MATCH'
3. Type in the name and password of the server that is given to you
Format:
I will use challonge for the creation of brackets and groups.
Less than 12 players:Double elimination knockout phase, random draws (Odd number of participants: Champions get BYE round*).
12 players: 4 groups of 3, top 2 advance. Single elimination knockout phase from now on.
13,14: 4 groups of 3, top of group advances, runner-ups who advance are decided in a special ranking of second best placed teams**
16: 4 groups of 4, top 2 advance.
16+: Methods similar to the solutions above. Keep adding groups, use special standings for those that do not automatically advance.
-Groups are created using a pot system. Teams with highest mmr get put into pot 1. Teams with the lowest mmr get put into the last pot.
-Knockout phase starts with the group winners playing against random group runner-ups (they can't play against someone in the same group). Teams from the same group will not be able to play against each other unless they meet in the final.
-An extra knockout phase may be created for those who were eliminated in the group stage. It is acceptable if you do not wish to participate in it. Draws for it will be random.
*- The previous champions might not be in the same team again. In that case, we will also look at the placements of their teammates.
**- Make sure to screenshot/record. The amount of goals will be important when it comes to standings.
Group stage point system and tie breakers
An overall win gives you 3 points, each game win gives you 1 additional.
Example: If you win a BO5, you get 6 points; 3 for winning the whole thing and 1 for each game you won. This helps prevent ties.
Tie breakers are:
1. Match wins
2. Game set wins
3. Wins vs tied participants
Criteria:
Extra time and how to decide a winner if difficulties appear with organization;
We will be using team A and team B
If team A and team B organize a match and team B suddenly cancels it hours before it starts, team B will have to use their extra time if they want to extend their week to make room for the match. If they can't find a suitable time, team A gets the win. If a suitable time is found and team A cancels hours before the match, then team B gets refunded their extra time and it starts getting taken from team A, who have until the end of the week. If both teams fail to organize anything, a tie can be given out. Another outcome could be giving out the win to the least problematic team (the one that hindered the match taking place the least).
Simple solution: use a reserve
PS4 and XB1 cross platform problem
If they meet in the playoffs, higher seed automatically wins.
Registration (how to join):
-Teams are made out of 3 players.
-You can bring extra players to be the teams official subs. Subs can be any rank (except grand champ or champ IIIs). As long as the team that plays the match is under the max mmr, its fine for them to play at any time.
-Teams have to represent a country/culture. You don't have to be from the country that you are representing. (France, Yugoslavia, Bavaria are all allowed, even if you are swiss).
-Colours will be given based on the teams real life home colours unless a different colour is provided by the participant. You can choose to flair up your name if you wish to do so, as long as it still clearly represents something.
-All team members have to be part of the discord.
-A captain can be designated to be the main conveyor of information to the team.

Rules about reserves:
To minimize exploitation of the reserve system, the reserve has to have a lower in-game 3v3 rank compared to the missing player. Division can be higher by only one. If the missing player is unranked, he is not eligible for a reserve higher than bronze (this rule might change to allow silvers to reserve for an unranked player). Unranked players can't choose to reserve. Players from other teams are allowed to reserve for another team.
