I've had someone tell me recently that different car upgrades like car armor has an effect on how much the car weighs and on the general performance of the vehicle. Is there any truth to these claims? Another one I've heard is that non-bulletproof makes your car go faster. Has anyone else heard this or am I just insane?

There is some truth to it. Stuff like armour however is utterly rubbish, non bulletproofs too. The weird factors that make a difference are bumpers, wheel types and singular wheels, Neons, spoilers, and any other model changing bodywork, like scoops etc. Windows(maybe)and custom wheels (maybe). The non (maybe)'s are definitely factors however. Would talk to Ch1ll1 on NODO Discord about it if you want the know more .

No, these are common claims from random people that don't know much about GTA racing. Weight only has an effect on collisions, so a Nero Custom can ram a Tyrus off the track more easily. But besides that, armor and bulletproof tyres don't even increase the weight of a vehicle, it has no effect on performance.
You can have anything you like on your car as long as you have the performance upgrades.

Non-bulletproofs definitely don't make you faster. The only effect they have is making life more difficult if the tire gets shot or burnt out.

Found it interesting Off road tires don’t work as well with some cars personally. Just got the Pariah and kept spinning out on them from a simple turn, changed to tuner and no issues. Just like broughy says in his videos sometimes it depends on every person and what works for them

rumors of other car upgrades affecting racing are always floating around, i like to think that if something like that where to be true, broughy would have made a video on it

Just like broughy says in his videos sometimes it depends on every person and what works for them Generally cars with a lot of traction "feel" better with offroads. Cars that dont have loads of traction sometimes feel better with tuners or sports, because people say you get more feel/feedback with those options, allowing you to better control them. But personal preference and placebo is quite a large factor

I actually had no clue that wheel types actually mattered to handling, is it true that spoilers have a pretty big impact and does size matter *Wink Wink*

People like GUN1t123 have made videos on this, such as this one. Broughy went a bit more in depth and explained some more about modifications that affect handling in this video
