I'm on PS4 as well. NicotheRider , while i agree that those things are important, i disagree with them > this here. If someone lacks understanding of lines, brake points etc, then hotlapping isn't going to improve much. Also, improving laptimes include to many variables. You just know you are going faster, but not if it's because of the new line in the first corner or how you exited the chicane before the straight and so on. Unless you are very structured and consistent, which i doubt anyone is at this level, and i know i'm not. These things are only obvious when racing someone else. But mainly, it is so much more fun learning when racing others or practicing tracks before racing others on them. 1. You start with known tracks and watch hotlaps of them, so you see exactly where you lose time. 2. The understanding off all those things comes along with hotlapping. 3. Too many variables? Not sure why you name this. In the chaos of racing others you can't tell either if you gain time on the person ahead because you had a better line/shift etc. or because he slightly but barely visible messed up. 4. Fun doesn't always deliver results. While I liked most of my hotlapping nearly 2 years ago when I started, I certainly didn't enjoy all of it. But I went through regardless. Because of that though, I had fun in my time here finishing very highly or winning in event races regulary. 1. This is very difficult when you are new. Telling a line from a slightly faster line is something i can rarely do. 2. I get that, but again, when you are new this is a long way to go. 3. I mention this because it is clearer if someone takes a line in front of you, then ends up being even more in front, that that line could be faster (even clearer in non-contact as iRaymen mentioned), than if i take a series of lines through multiple corners and end up with a laptime that tells me i was slightly faster than before. There is no way for me to know what i changed to go faster. 4. Maybe we are misunderstanding each other; i am not against hotlapping. It is a vital and enjoyable part of improving and being on pace, i understand that. But if beginners like me want to race, and get better at racing, which i'm pretty sure we all do, a good idea is a beginners event. I believe improvement comes from a combination of hot-lapping (i.e. practicing) and actually racing.

I host a weekly Saturday event at 1 pm (PST) on Xbox One. It's really laid back, people of all skills welcome kinda thing, not limited to NoDo crew (still clean racing though). The event is new and we only have about 6 regulars so far, but its growing. I'm not sure where our average skill level sits relative to top NoDo ravers, but I think beginners would fit right in. I've learned so much from our first two races and all the practice in between. If anyone is interested or would like to know more feel free to message me here or on xbox.

Sounds great! I don't mind getting doors blown off because a majority of the time I'm at the back because I don't know the tracks. However, once or twice a playlist, I luck up on a track that I figure out quickly and I don't do do bad.
I definitely don't race or practice enough to expect consistent top 5 finishes. I've only played maybe 5 playlist since joining NoDo. Definitely not enough reps, so understand why I'm not got.
Something like this would be a great addition and option to help grow NoDo and develop new members to be more competitive racers.
But like an earlier post said, you have to get in with the big boys and figure it out, too.

You'll learn that over time when hotlapping if you get yourself behind it and really keep working on details. 3. Not necessarily as you don't always keep thinking about this stuff when racing in the heat of the moment. 4. A combination works since you only get a feeling for overtakes/defending or how to NOT act like an erratic idiot who messes up everyone else when racing others. I'd say the pace and the car control improvements to pull off overtakes are more achieved via hotlapping.

Me and Hemi are working to put together a weekly playlist that will be for newer and older racers with some user submitted tracks! It will be for PS4. I wanted to start a user submitted track showcase playlist then this came about so I thought it would be cool to do it all together. Details soon!

I agree, I would love some events to get involved in, but feel like I’d be a liability in a normal event.
