Welcome to NODO Playlist!
When: Saturday, January 19 @ 19:00 UTC (2 PM EST) (for now)
Hello all,
The other PS4 mods and I will be starting up a monthly playlist designed to teach racing craft and etiquette in GTA. It is open to both newer players as well as our more experienced drivers too. Feel free to drop in.
Every month, we'll have a playlist of 5-6 tracks in which we can practice driving in relation to other drivers in a contact racing scenario. When should I be aggressive and try to push for an overtake? When should I wait? When should I try and take the proper racing line? When should I start taking different lines either to attack or defend? When do I need to stay calm and hold my line so as not to push into a driver next to me? Practicing these sorts of techniques will be the goal of these playlists.
If racing lines, braking points and things of the like sound unfamiliar to you, I'd highly recommend checking Broughy's Racing School Playlist. Other good video series on GTA racing to check out can be found from Peecarnoo here, and a great video from Shaggy aka. Gunit123 here on race craft in GTA. Keep in mind that these are some of the most skilled drivers in GTA and it won't be as easy as it appears in the videos, however they serve as great resources. I'd highly recommend checking these out if you're interested in getting involved in events. Another good resource is this blog from F1metrics about the rules of racing.
There are several other tricks in the bag for getting faster such as curb boosting (Broughy), short-shifting; here (Cirrus5005), here (Shaggy), and here (Gyrogue), brake-boosting (adam10603), and setups (chilli). However the gains from these methods are far more minuscule than learning how to take proper racing lines.
It doesn't matter if you finish first or last with these races, try to practice driving in the presence of other drivers. If you're battling with someone and they crash out, feel free to wait and continue the battles. This should help us all to get better at managing traffic and becoming better racers in GTA. These are the intentions of this playlist.
With all this in mind, relax and have some fun learning how to improve at racing.
See you on the track!
