................ all I am thinking is that its boring. I believe a lot of non-motorsport fans agree with you for any other race, too. Why is Monaco so bad? What's wrong with having a different type of race in the championship? Maybe I'm biased because >70% of the time SkySports was showing 'The Flying Dutchman' who was certainly not giving me a boring race to watch. Until he caused the safety car to come out.

I feel it's a race that is good for the image of the sport. It's a prestigious event, well known, and the track is a street circuit which we don't see often. In terms of how tight the roads are, it's similar to racing in the Hills, (the tight ones), in GTA. You have to be patient, but when you make or in the case watch for F1, an overtake in such narrow roads, they're some of the best looking and technical overtakes. I agree that it's not a practical race, if you qualify first, 80% of the time you will win the race, but that other 20% of the time, when someone pulls something out the bag and makes some amazing passes, and surprises the spectators, is worth it. I feel F1 wouldn't be the same without Monaco, I've been there on holiday, not at the time of the F1, and the one thing I wanted to do, which I did, is stand on the downhill hairpin past the casino, the one turning to the left (and was actually even better as I got a picture of me as an F40 drove past ), and that is one of the most iconic corners in this race. To go there, I could not think of a better race to go to. So I agree it's not practical for a race, but I don't care, it's Monaco!

Ok so let me clear the fact that I dont hate Monaco as a race track, its actually one of my favorite circuits to race around. My problem is that cars this fast that leave this much turbulence behind them cant possibly overtake. Everything else is great about Monaco GP, the fans love the track, the drivers love the track, its got all that history, glamour, its an iconic race and those pole lap onboards are great too. The actual race however is always just faster cars stuck behind slower cars and proper overtakes are extremely rare. I just get the feeling that Monaco GP happens because of everything else other than the actual race. Here let me give you another example, Monaco GP is one of the oldest races on the calendar, 60+ F1 races have happened around this track, whats the best Monaco GP we have ever had? www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsqipJ2lSZs Mansell couldnt overtake then, Hamilton couldnt overtake now and judging by the way things are going the races arent gonna get better. Like I said I feel like Monaco GP happens for everything else other than the actual race. I enjoy the other stuff too but some people seem to value "the other stuff" more than the actual race and there is nothing wrong with that, personally by far the most important thing is the race and only the race and Monaco repeatedly fails to deliever, thats why I dont like Monaco GP.

Hi guys; new to the crew but an F1 fan going back to the 80s when I watched Mansell, Senna and Prost battle it out when I was a little child.
I've been to a few races, mostly recently Singapore 2014.
Full disclosure: I was a huge Mark Webber fan, and now am a Ricciardo fan though I'd hesitate to call myself a Red Bull team fan. I much prefer Williams and McLaren, though it's tough watching the latter have two excellent drivers and struggle so mightily.
I cannot abide Nico Rosberg - he's a never-will-be champion with a smug entitlement mentality.
The consensus over the last few pages is, unsurprisingly, consistent with what people over on Joe Saward's blog have been saying; namely, this season is boring. In 2011, when Vettel won almost every race, what we ended up watching and enjoying was what happened behind him. So you knew he was going to win, but seeing how Webbsy, Jenson or Fernando (Lewis was busy crashing a lot that year, usually with Massa) got on was interesting. Spa 2011 is a perfect example; Jenson racing through the field, using a brilliant bit of drag to time a DRS overtake on Rosberg to finish third behind Webber and Vettel.
This year, excepting one race, it's a Merc processional with Hamilton leading Rosberg to a 1-2 finish. Kimi or Seb are the best of the rest, with Red Bull not mounting much of a challenge and whilst 2014 Williams seemed to build on 2012 Williams (when Senna and Paydriver Malretardo were finishing in the points often and, gasp, winning once!), 2015 Williams seems to be 2013 Williams all over.
There have been some great moments - Toro Rosso's drivers are revelations, and the promise (unrealised) of the McLaren Honda. But it's few and far between.
So with Canada (eh) coming up this weekend, does anyone else hope that a brake-by-wire issue or similar plagues Mercedes like it did last year (when Our Lad, Danny Ricciardo, won his first race!) so we get some different results?

Well, Canada was a bore. Good drive from Vettel, Massa and disappointment for Ricciardo and the McLaren boys. So sick of Mercedes 1-2 right now that I think even more than Vettel winning everything in 2011 the sport has become boring.
At least with 2011 the battle for the podium slots was interesting, with Webber, Alonso, Hamilton and Button mixing it up by winning races and podium slots (plus didn't Petrov and Heidfeld get podiums too?).

Indeed it was a boring race, happy to see Red Bull did fairly well despite this beeing a power circuit though. Those guys have built a great car and have won 4 championchips, deserve better than 10th. Hopefully the Renault engine will improve.

I'm sick of Mercedes 1-2 and I say that as a big fan of the team and Hamilton. I don't want this to be 2011 all over again.
I hope the season can pick up some excitement during the summer as it heads to some of my favourite tracks.

Ferrari needs to get into the mix, they need to get their shit together after 7 years. I've given up on McLaren Honda, at least for this year, RBR doesn't have the engine to challenge for a win. That just leaves Williams and Ferrari and I don't see Williams out developing Mercedes.

Agree with all above ^
Actually find myself rooting for Ferrari or Williams to make some kind of advance towards Mercedes. Still hoping for the Hamilton wins but not unchallenged wins. Hell even Nico doesn't seem to have an answer to Lewis at the moment.

At least with 2011, it was just Vettel dominating and 2nd place onwards was a wildcard. It wasn't always a 1-2, with Hamilton usually beating the spoiled brat who wishes he was seen as German and who will never, ever, ever, ever, ever be a champion (I really dislike Rosberg, if this is not obvious ). i.e. Belgium, 2011 - you've got *that* overtake of Webber on Alonso at Eau Rouge. You've got Button storming through the pack to finish 3rd, including a brilliant overtake on Rosberg where he uses a hint of drag to minimally slow the car before slipstreaming past under DRS. Or Canada 2011, with JB's drive through the field in the wet to win. Even though it was utter Vettel domination as a season, it had a lot else going on. What I'd like to see, and I say this as a fan of his, is for Kimi to retire. I know this is blasphemous, but it's for the best - and I own a Lotus-Renault shirt I bought at the Lotus store at Piccadily Circus because Kimi was driving for them. I love the guy. But he's just not driving at his prime anymore. I'd love to see Bottas and Vettel in the red cars, I think that pairing could be electric and what the Scuderia need.

Couldn't agree more with DC. An F1 car should be such an extreme challenge to drive both mentally and physically to such an extent that it gives lesser drivers nightmares about even stepping into one. No disrespect for the efforts of Max Verstappen but he wouldn't last even half a race distance in the V10 monsters of the past. That was the domain of men, not teenagers.

I love Monaco. Being a street circuit, going up and down as well as being twisty in some parts is always exciting in my book.
