Wheel types have been something that I've believed may affect lap times for some time now. Changing between the different types of wheels may make the car feel more grippy/ slippy on the roads, and at times steering may feel to be affected (oversteer/understeer). Some believe this may be all part of the imagination but Broughy has already tested whether custom tires may affect grip, and by the lap times times they actually may. This video can be found at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIBk7XZpeh8&list=PLx_tHjuVuROBaRMStH0ZXS1cy_lDSIjOf&feature=share&index=5. Now I want to share with you guys what I've found. My experiment is by no means definitive and replication would definitely help in proving that it is correct.
I took a fully modded Entity XF and raced it around Cutting Coroners three times at ten laps each. The conditions were set at noon with clear conditions. I recorded the fastest lap for each of the three runs to see what would happen. All wheels included bulletproof and custom tires. Again, this is by no means definitive as I couldn't even beat Broughy's time; 54.869 (www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5awInMO58k&feature=share&list=PLx_tHjuVuROBaRMStH0ZXS1cy_lDSIjOf&index=12). So here are my findings:
Fastest Laps: Lowrider (Dollar)-55.281 Tuner (Rally Master)-55.572 High End (Carbon S Racer)-55.593 SUV (Extravaganzo)-55.626 Muscle (Black Top)-55.608 Sport (Ruffweld)-55.792 Off Road (Challenger)-55.975
Average Fastest Laps from All Three Runs: Low Rider (Dollar)-55.462 SUV (Extravaganzo)-55.753 Muscle (Black Top)-55.983 Tuner (Rally Master)-56.036 High End (Carbon S Racer)- 56.042 Sport (Ruffweld)- 56.230 Off Road (Challenger)- 56.270
In summary, the fastest tires would obviously be the most grippy. They also felt the most comfortable around the track in general. For those reasons, I managed faster and more consistent times with low rider tires and slower and more inconsistent times with off road tires. Also, low rider tires did better by an entire 3/10ths of a second by the fastest and the average fastest times (hey... every bit counts). Now to me, going out and buying low rider tires for all of your cars seems like a ridiculous idea. I would need at least one replication for this experiment and if it were conclusive, I would go out and purchase low rider tires for every one of my vehicles. XD
What do you guys think about the idea that some tires are faster and also about which ones appear to be faster from my lap times? Please feel free to answer the poll and post any thoughts. Also... If you'd like to replicate this in some way, I'd recommend the same track with the same conditions and please... post it here. Thanks!

I find it interesting your slowest time was off road and you felt they didnt have good grip bc when I put them on a turismo it felt like it increased the grip a lot.

It's all in the imagination. I know it sounds as dumb as a particular camo making your gun stronger in cod but Im telling you put off-road tires on a turismo for 5 min and drive around. If you arent convinced there is some difference Ill drop it.

I can't say that there's no difference because I do notice some tires having larger diameters, some stick out farther, etc, all of this could change the way the cars feel if the game simulates it in the physics. It's for this reason that I pick one set of wheels (based on visuals) and don't change them. I also had a thing for the stock wheels on the Entity, but whatever performance I was gaining in my head I was losing by looking bad. Hoping to see some good testing on this, although I think it would be hard to do properly.
Perhaps using the content creator would be best. Place a checkpoint right next to a curb, respawn while turning and holding throttle five times. Or align the checkpoint so that a curb ahead upsets the car with no input, test that checkpoint with different wheels. You could create a track with five or six of these different checkpoints.

Off road tires might be different (more traction on gravel, mud etc and less traction on asphalt). But I am pretty confident the rest of them provide excactly the same grip. And I am 100% sure that the car characteristics (oversteer, understeer) stay the same. This is GTA, not Grand Turismo or Forza.Rockstar wouldnt get on such a level of detail when 85% of the players cant drive for shit.It would be epic if they did but the didn't.

No maybe guys??? How much testing have you seen? I just found a few posts and YouTube videos describing some conclusions although I don't believe they are conclusive.
Mainly I found this one: np.reddit.com/r/GrandTheftAutoV/comments/1pw9sa/gtao_los_santos_customs_upgrade_tests/, which was the only one I found that didn't deal with a straight line test.
The guy took only 1 lap around "Taking Off" three times. I don't believe that is enough to figure this out, although it is a start.
His Fastest Laps: 1. tuner- 55.5 2 .(tie)- sport/muscle- 55.6 3. (tie)-high end/low rider- 55.7 4. SUV- 55.9 5. off road- 56.09
Average Lap Times: 1. low rider- 55.8 2. high end- 55.9 3. sport- 56 4. SUV- 56.17 5. tuner- 56.233 6. muscle- 56.3 7. off road- 56.3633
What I think about his data: Three laps aren't enough to find the fastest laps around the track, however; assuming he did know the track well (judging by his lap times they were pretty close) the average lap times may be valid, which are very similar to my findings. Low rider tires yielded a more consistent lap, and if he did more laps like I did he may have found they produce the fastest lap. Also, off road tires yielded the slowest and most consistently slowest. I found these two wheel types to be the outliers of my data (being at the highest and lowest lap times in both fastest laps and average fastest laps), too.
I'm not saying that we have concluded that my results are correct yet, although it may make them more believable. Also, we're talking very small increments of time here. It may or may not make a difference to you if there are hidden stats for each wheel type, which may be Rockstar's botched wheel performance idea. However, I believe that seeing as carbon car parts may make the car faster, or suspension, or anything else (which also deals with very small increments of time), all of this time adds up and may matter to some. Or if you find that for some reason low rider tires are better, you may not want to put them on your car because they look ugly, but it's better knowing the facts.

I cant say for races, but in free roam when i first bought my jester and was customizing it i was running around the airport in sport tires and tuner tires. There was a noticable difference especially when at full speed.

There was a noticable difference especially when at full speed. Yea, I'd think it would. Like with the Elegy, I had an issue where it would spin out if I cut a corner over a curb while accelerating, it would lose its traction and start to skid. That problem happens much less often with lowrider tires. Maybe because the wheels don't affect the speed, which has been shown on straight line tests, the handling physics for a car that is heavy may impact any car you put them on and make it handle better. Maybe it's a mistake that Rockstar made. It's only somewhat noticeable for me. I'm going to do the same test again with a different car this time.

Also when I owned a Ruiner I shaved off .5 seconds on Cutting Coroners switching from high end to sports

But .5 is alot so that could just be human error.

Ok! I have results from a second run that I'd like to share with you all. Unfortunately, I sold my Entity for a Zentorno, and I had to do the tests with it instead.
For this set of results I used a fully upgraded Zentorno around Cutting Coroners at noon with clear weather. I did 3x 10 lap races (plus a warm up) for each set of wheels and recorded the best times for each. I also made sure to keep an approximate racing line throughout the testing.
Fastest Laps: Lowrider (Dollar)- 54.824 Muscle (Black Top)- 54.989 High End (Carbon S Racer)- 54.998 SUV (Extravaganzo)- 55.028 Sport (Ruffweld)- 55.062 Off Road (Challenger)- 55.090 Tuner (Rally Master) - 55.128
Average Fastest Laps from a Three Runs: SUV (Extravaganzo)- 55.068 Lowrider (Dollar)- 55.083 Off Road (Challenger)- 55.166 Muscle (Black Top)- 55.186 Sport (Ruffweld)- 55.285 Tuner (Rally Master)- 55.313 High End (Carbon S Racer)- 55.523
Conclusion: Alright, first of all to interpret the data; fastest laps= capability, average fastest laps= consistency. I was able to hit a 54.824 on my racing line with lowrider wheels as my fastest lap, which is consistent with what I've found when I did the last test. Offroad wheels ended up near the bottom, which is also consistent. High end and SUV tires are exactly where they were in the first testing. The differences for the most part lie around the middle. Muscle and sports wheels fluctuated a little bit and tuner wheels scored an unusually low lap time from my first results. The fastest lap times that were consistent with both tests were: Lowrider (1st in both tests), High End (3rd in both tests), and if I had to choose a third I'd pick SUV (4th in both tests).
When it came to average fastest laps it was a bit all over the place, possibly due to human error. I do believe the fastest laps that I did do in both tests had the least error, so I'd stick to that data foremost. However; lowrider wheels stayed near the top, SUV toward the top, Muscle toward the middle, and Sport toward the bottom as consistent with the last test's average lap. The wheels that changed were: Off Road, which scored higher consistent lap times, Tuner, which scored much lower than the last test, and High End, which scored much lower than the last test (at the bottom of the list). The average fastest lap times between the two were, Lowrider (tied for best between both tests), SUV (tied for best between both tests), and the third would have to be Muscle (which scored in the top/middle on each test).
So that is my analysis between the two tests. If I would choose to give myself a happy medium between capability (fastest lap), and consistency (average fastest lap), I would choose these wheels on pavement:
Lowrider SUV
I believe off road tires would fare better in off road situations, check this video out: www.youtube.com/watch?v=whvwdze4EFI.
I'm not going to call this data conclusive at all. There may still be room for error, and it would be awesome if better racers than me could see if it can be replicated. Hopefully, if Broughy decides to check this out for us and post a video, there will be more data out there to compare it to. Until then, I just might set myself up with SUV tires (only because I don't want to trick out my new Zentorno with Dollar rims and a chrome paintjob) and call it a day. BTW my fastest lap (accidentally broke from the racing line) was 54.238; gotta love it.
