Hi all, 1stly, sry to those i have been racing with for my lack of racing & forum activity. I'm not a great driver, but i have enjoyed racing with yoo all! I'll be back onit soon. Anyways, I'm off Karting tomorrow morning at Thruxton Kart circuit, & the weather forcast is for rain! Doh! I've only karted at this circuit twice b4. The last time I managed to get 3 mid 1:05@s in a row, untill it started raing near the end of my session. Now i found a nightmare keeping it on the track lol. So i'd like to ask if anyone here who's had karting in the wet experiance, if you any advice you could give me plz! I have watched & loved Broughy1322's vids, so i'll try to put his advice into practise aswell! Thx guys!

Senna setting the example: youtu.be/nwLEE420v20?t=186Mostly in terms of pace you just gotta stay off of the rubber and grow a set. Don't be afraid of turning with the throttle. Keeping momentum can be as important as ever or it could be less important, depends on the kart you're in. Here's some race in China: www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHdlylGrNM8Don't be afraid to make passes like the blue guy in this video if you've got the metal ring around the wheels of your kart. It's rainy and passing is weird. youtu.be/K0ZMpEJkWCQ?t=244

Dont risk it in the corners and dont focus too much on passing people in the corners because you might brake too late and either lock the brakes when you realize your too fast for the corner. i know this cus i too do weekly karting. if you know the other drivers racing styles and that they also are not good in the wet, then play it a bit safe and wait for them to make a mistake. i have come first a few times on the last lap by doing this.

Just my expertise. Qualifications for helping: Raced in the super one series (look it up) and got pole position in slippery conditions (sorry, can't resist throwing that in anywhere I can).
Stay off the rubber, which generally means staying off the generally accepted racing line. In the braking zones it's often but not always incredibly slippery if you brake on the normal racing line, experiment with braking a metre to the side of so. Drive around the outsides of the corners off the rubber, although some corners you can get away with the normal dry line. Again, experiment. And finally, if you do take the outside lines remember that there will be a point where the dry and wet lines over lap - there will be rubber at this point, and you will spin the wheels when you touch the rubber. Be prepared to lift off and don't sit there like a mug getting it half sideways with your wheels spinning going nowhere.
Last piece of advice is to not be a grandma with the steering wheel. Full lock until the front tyres bite and you feel the kart start to turn into the corner. Brake and accelerator should be used smoothly, but with the steering you want to turn aggressively into the corners. Also, if you're having to countersteer a lot then you're not being smooth enough with the power most likely.
By the way that last piece of advice absolutely does not apply to driving in dry/damp conditions. You pretty much want to be as smooth as you possibly can be with the steering and use as little steering input as possible in anything other than fairly wet conditions.

Heya, sry, got a bit hung over sunday noon/eve lol. That was a fun & mad experience! Got there 9am to find that they had recently re-surfaced half the track! which was great to see. There was 20 of us from my place of work. so we had teams of 4, on a 2hr enduro. I was up 1st in the practice/qually's. My first outing wasn't too bad, the new surface was great & grippy (it was full on wet all morning) considering the slicks lol. The Karts as u may well know, are Thunderkarts. Only managed 1:33's, as i was struggling with a few corners on the old surface. The hairpin (it was the long circuit) was tricky, so slippery. The left right coming out of the back-straight for me was my nemisis! Argh! every time i tried a different approach, flicked in2 the left, but the right just washed out, hard lock the kart did not wanna turn in. I think my problem was not keeping the gas on enough, as soon as throttle off, the fronts didn't bite in. so prolly i needed more throttle & muscle it more there! That then lead into a sweeping left into a little chiquane, & then back onto the start/finish striaght & new surface! Man it was fun, but my best time was only 1:29. The best lap from our group was 1:25 & the laps from regulars, was 1:20! So fast in the wet! We all had about 25 mins each in total, not ideal, but a great fun morning event. And was so wet! lol had a complete change of clothes! lol. I got some footage, that i'll post up later. Thx for the advice, i think it did actually help! though, a full session would prolly be better to experiment with! We plan to go again this summer, hopefully in drier conditions! Thx again guys!
