I have always used mad catz for competitive racing but if it is out of your budget just find a cheap wheel and a good set of pedals (they are far more important especially if you play with assists off)

I have the Trustmaster 458 Spider (in combination with a Wheelstand Pro) and I quite like it. It's a good choice if you're on a budget. Lacks force feedback though. It does have a bungie cord mechanism to provide resistance and auto centering of the wheel, but you're not getting any feedback from the game itself.
If you have more to spend I would probably go for the TX. Also check out "InsideSimRacing" on Youtube. They have excellent reviews of all the wheels .
