Today the united states supreme court ruled in favor of same sex marriages. This is truly a wonderful day. I know that there may be some people who are disappointed in this decision, but please read further. I am a lesbian, and I recently married the love of my life, kaylynne. Our state legalized same sex marries awhile ago. However there was one problem. Kay wanted to marry me in a church. A methodist church to be exact. The bishops of her church do not allow same sex marriage in our state. One day, kay invited me to meet her pastor, his name is Phil. Kay, phil, and I sat and talked at Phil house for well over 3 hours. I told phil I was going to be honest, I'm an atheist so same sex marriage was a no brainer. I had a smug tone about me that day. I'm not use to interacting with people who believe in a man who lives in the clouds. Phil said, "In modern society every person has a responsibility to understand that they might not understand other people. We can communicate with anybody, anytime" he then reached out and held my hands in his. "Aoi" he says "The god I know loves all his children" 4 weeks later Phil broke the "rules" the state bishops set and performed kay's and my wedding. I'm still an atheist btw. I just want you all to know that love is not something that should be banned, ridiculed, or hated. We all live on the same planet, we all love to race cars, and we all are human beings. This is a good thing. I <3 U America

It's about time 'Murica joined the rest of the 1st world nations in allowing same-sex marriage. I feel like the fight isn't over though, I'm sure some of those Southern states aren't happy right about now.

GG Supreme Court. Been a long time coming tbh, and I know a lot of people will be celebrating. Whether or not one is homosexual, it is a major step forward in rights for US residents. It's about time 'Murica joined the rest of the 1st world nations in allowing same-sex marriage. I feel like the fight isn't over though, I'm sure some of those Southern states aren't happy right about now. In all respect, the southern US is still a fairly racist place. I've heard the tales. Not sure what they think of homosexuality though.

Its..... complicated.... idk if I can even explain the south. I've only lived in the USA for about 7 years and I've never been to the south.
It does not matter though, everybody is entitled to their own opinion. I only wish that everybody can understand that love should not be illegal.
Phil put his job and lively hood at risk for love's sake. He made a decision to perform our wedding against the ideals of his boss's wishes, and also some members of the church who are still against gay marriage.
For all I know phil may be against gay marriage aswell, but he understood that it is not his place to tell us that kay and I cannot love each other.
To me, what phil did was that he made a decision to make the best of the situation, if there is a god he wanted him to be with kay and I. Phil did not want to be a barrier between our wedding and his god,.

They can have their opinions but that doesnt make them any less of a piece of shit and I will continue to exercise the right to let them know just how ignorant they are. Im happy for a lot of people but Im not celebrating. Its embarrassing that it took this long and the feeling I have is relief more than anything. Relief that so many of my friends can be recognized as equals in a court of law. Relief that the most important debate during each presidential election wont be basic human rights in "the land of the free". Relief that we can move the fuck on. Now if we can knock out abortion for good maybe this country can progress in other areas of importance such as education.

TrowaYea, well, that's kinda what I wanted to say, just trying not to get angry about it. It's a day for celebration. I'm just really happy that people like me won't have to go through some of the shit I have had to go through both in japan and in america.

tsunderella (Ch3rryBoyHunter) I'm not celebrating. I still live in one of the only first-world countries to not allow same-sex marriage. What's even worse is that the ACT, the territory that the capital city of Australia sits in, legalised same-sex marriage, and then the commonwealth government said they couldn't do that. Trowa, you're embarrassed that it took so long? I'm even more embarrassed that it is an ongoing issue here. Not even embarrassed, just angry. Canada, the country I often compare Australia to, legalised same-sex marriage federally TEN YEARS AGO. And yet there's no end in sight for the great brown land.

Don't give up, you are on the side of justice. Logic will always prevail, but it does not win every battle. Always, always point out the falsehoods of bigots, they are a dying culture.

I hope it becomes legal there soon, it's already happened here in New Zealand and currently we're the only Eastern country to have legalized it. I'm sure some mainland Asian countries would follow the Aussies lead if same-sex marriage was legalized over the Tasman.

Honestly I'm hoping the US legalising it will pressure Australia into following. Hoping being the operative term.

I had a friend move to New York to get married, since it wasn't legal in Oregon til about a year later, so I've seen how not having a right every other citizen has can make a person change their life. She has been pretty celebratory on Facebook today, her and many other people (family and friends, gay, lesbian, or bi) I know now can now marry who they wish. I'ts wonderful to see the joy it brings to so many I know. Jackimo Good luck in your country.

Germany is still so behind in that regard. I hope this judgement is pioneering for other countries, in favour of more equality.

All countries should legalise gay marriage. I will never understand why people have all these bs reasons to oppose it. Also, just going to quickly point this out, Southern Ireland has legalised it but not Northern Ireland has not.
