Well done to the USA.
England on the other hand is still very much behind. I have both lesbian and gay friends and it does upset me when they tell me off the struggles they go through, not only through parents / family but just their day to day lifes. Even I myself am extremely shocked, when we are all out together, at the amount of starring, eye rolling, tutting and finger pointing they go through. Of course I make it my mission to stare back and point when I'm there because IDGAF but it's disgusting to see this kind of primitive behavior still happen in this day and age!

It's sad that America took so long to realise that love has no sexuality!

Good for America, good for you guys, @tsundarella. I'm all for equal marriage rights to everyone before law. I am a Catholic myself, so my opinions of marriage before God are a bit more complicated, but I can definitely set my ideas aside and be happy for two people who got what they wanted and as you said, it is not really any church's place to tell people what they can and cannot do.

Reading this thread almost makes me a bit misty eyed tbh. I remember back to when I was 16/17/18 and homophobic language and abuse was the norm on the internet among my age group and news like this would have been met with sneers and derision, it's so refreshing to see that twelve years down the line so much has changed for the better.
One of the best days of my life was being best man when my sister married her wife, the love of her life. And the fact that they had been happily together for ten years before being allowed to marry was ridiculous.
Well done America, love is legal and sense has prevailed. LGBT Rights are Human Rights and we must never forget that.

Countries where gay marriage is effectively legal. Argentina Belgium Brazil Canada Denmark England (UK) Finland France French Guiana Greenland Iceland Ireland Luxembourg Mexico The Netherlands New Zealand Norway Portugal Scotland (UK) South Africa Spain Sweden United States Uruguay Wales (UK) Still not enough. All countries should legalise gay marriage. I will never understand why people have all these bs reasons to oppose it. Also, just going to quickly point this out, Southern Ireland has legalised it but not Northern Ireland has not. Those reasons. I have never heard any other reason than religion. Religion is a conservative piece of ** that hopefully will lose all its power eventually. To be honest, I didn't even know so many countries do not allow gay marriage! What a fool am I to believe that racism doesn't exist and gay marriage is completely normal (really, what the hell is wrong with it?)... So ignorant.

I do love that conservative Christians are taking to Twitter to say "I'm going to move to Australia!"
I don't think they are aware we don't have guns here. We have, in fact, strict gun control laws which work. So, Gubmint Tyrrany 1, Freedoms 0.
We are pretty skeptical of religion.
We don't tolerate over the top symbolism.
We drink proper beers.
I just don't see how they think they'll enjoy or fit in here.

I dont have a problem with people believing what they want but forcing your ideals on others is just wrong. Separation of Church and State is very important in a country that claims to be free. You cant impose religion on people through the law and call yourself a free country. This was a big step in the right direction for the USA.

Being against gay people is something that used to be 'normal' but nowadays it's plain stupid to try and tell someone who he:she can or can't love and marry. Congrats on your marriage tsunderella (Ch3rryBoyHunter) !

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hate on religion in general. I hate people that are intolerant because of it. I hate the way people try to keep completely outdated ideas and views on the world alive. I hate the power religion has over common sense, in many countries. I certainly don't hate every religious person! Half my family believes strongly, but I don't hear them say that gay marriage is wrong. I hear them say that God loves every single person, and that the only thing that matters in the world, is to treat others as your equals and try to see the best of someone; believe everyone has good intentions by heart. I believe that being a good person is what matters most. I don't need religion for that. The world changes constantly. Religion wants to stay the same. Many things are generic, but too often people hold on to explicit but ancient ideas that are described by the religion in question. Those people are blind to the world.

The thing I really don't understand about the people against gay marriage is why? I can somewhat understand the root of the hatred, but their lives will literally not change at all now that same sex marriage is legal. To me it's nothing but hysteria. They are get themselves so worked up based on their assumptions about us that It's quite laughable at times.
I mean have you seen some of their tweets from the other day. They say things like, "great, now that gays can marry, pedophiles will want marriage rights too" or "now I'm going to have gays flirting with me all the time"
But in reality nothing will change for them. This is simply other people becoming equal.
They are stuck on the idea that being gay is something purely sexual, but for me that is not true at all. I simply found love in an unconventional place and way.
Attacking religion won't help the situation, it is the ideology of bigots that is the problem.
