I just rented Gran Turismo 5 the other day. I've seen some fellow NODO members playing GT6 and they said it is pretty good. I went searching on the Internet for different opinions via GT5 and GT6. From my general understanding, there's not that huge of a difference (except more cars and activities in GT6). And the last Gran Turismo I have played was Gran Turismo 1 on the PS1!
I gotta say, Gran Turismo 5 is pretty fun so far! I'd adjusted the controls to match the driving controls of GTA 5 so I'm doing a bit better now. There's a "driving school" type feature where they explain different aspects of racing. It's a pretty cool feature. You can also direct a driver to win races. And, of course, you yourself actually racing.
Gran Turismo 5 is only, roughly, $20 now. I'm definitely gonna pick it up. It's a great racing game! The only drawback (so far) is that I had to wait for updates and content to install on my PS3 whenever I first started the game. I had to wait about an hour for downloads.

Gran Tursimo 5 is a great game, I use to play it all the time before GTA V came out. However it is better to get GT6 since GT5's online services have stopped. Both GT5 and 6 are big games, I'm surprised they even work on the PS3. You'll find loading times to be quite long, not as long as GTA but long. GT5 and 6 are definitely worth getting.

I gotta say I was pretty disappointed by GT5 and its separation between "premium" cars and standard ones. I loved to drive with the dashboard view for my racing experience to be a bit more realistic, but I hated having to switch to the front-bumper view when I had to use a standard car. Also, I never really played online because playing with the dashboard view is harder, and of course not everyone used it (I think almost no one used it online!).
I'm still wondering whether or not I'll buy GT6. Are there still standard and premium cars?

6 runs better, loads faster, has better menu systems, new tracks, and online gameplay. Jus'sayin.

Online wise, there are a few things I know for sure that is new. I don't race online that much anymore and just focus on hotlapping, but anyways. What GT6 has as new is a qualifier before the race begins. Also you can now do timed endurance races while in GT5, you would just set a number of laps for the race and hope it lasts for the time period you hoped it would take.
One thing that was harshly criticized by the Gran Turismo Community was taking away an extremely popular game mode online called 'Shuffle Racing'. This is a quick explanation I posted on another forum, about what Shuffle Racing is:
If you're unfamiliar with what PP is, it's extremely similar to whatever performance system was used in the Forza series, just a different name.
Anyways as one who plays GT6 daily I'd highly recommend getting it for the online gameplay.

Doodle do you use a wheel? Yeah. I have a Logitech G27. It's a bucket load of fun! This is what my setup looked like a few months back.
