Pretty sure Rey is Luke's daughter as the movie really hints to it with the doll back on Jakku that resembles Luke and his(?) helmet. It would also make sense considering the force came to her pretty easily as well as the previously mentioned information confirming the theory. Definitely looking forward to the next two episodes of the trilogy and honestly this movie may be one of my personal top favorites of the year.

So what about Rey? Surely she has a strong lineage if the Saber was calling to her? I just hope she's not another skywalker. I'm hoping a Kenobi, she'd be the padawan to Luke as luke was to Obi-wan. {Spoiler} I'm pretty confident that she is Luke's daughter, but that's a very interesting point. Perhaps there was a son of Ben Kenobi that for whatever reason had to abandon his daughter? I'm leaning towards Luke, but it's not outrageous that she could be Ben Kenobi's granddaughter. Also, how much longer do we need to use the spoiler tab?

{Spoiler} If she's Kenobi's granddaughter then the world shall indeed be inherited by fools. That's a silly notion and whilst some fans of the utter wank that was the prequels - think failed backyard abortion with a rusty coathanger and you're still producing better art than that shit, and I don't give a damn if that's what you grew up on either - might enjoy it, Simon Pegg was right about those people. The likely options are: 1) Luke's kid. I hope not, because yawn and also too much time wasted exploring who mother dearest was. 2) Leia's pregnant just before Ben Solo becomes Kylo Ren. Han, we know, leaves when this happens and runs off. He therefore doesn't know about his daughter. Leia sends her to Luke to be safe. Now for either of these theories, Luke has to leave her on Jakku and for whatever reason can't come back OR was told by the Force her tough upbringing would forge in her the strength to confront her cousin/brother later. 3) Rei's parents were young Jedi students of Luke's, who survived Ren. Left her on Jakku to lead him and Snoke away, and couldn't come back because they're dead. The film has a hint of Arthurian legend to it, so the humble origins story words for her here.

I'm excited for you to see it! I've been trying to take my wife basically since it came out but she's not super interested. I'm ready to go see it again already.

Saw the movie, thought it was very well done. I think it was a very nice variation on the original 1977 storyline, something that gets new viewers in at a good starting point with engaging characters while still letting long-time fans feel tremors of nostalgia. Regarding Rey I think Rey's parentage is a red herring. Who her parents are or were isn't important at this point; I think her dreams and flashbacks are either the Force speaking to her, or she's one of Luke's students, a very young one who survived the massacre and was hidden on Jakku in preparation for his disappearance. Regarding Kylo Ren I get the distinct impression that Kylo Ren is being used. Not just in converting him to the Dark Side, but his training as well. He has a great deal of raw power and a few useful tricks, but there's no refinement, no discipline. I think he's being kept unbalanced and weak on purpose, so that he can easily be disposed of when a more viable apprentice appears... like Rey. I think this also plays out in the way he's competing for Snook's approval . Regarding Luke, Leia, And So On They're going to die.
At the very least Luke will, but I suspect Leia will by the end of 9. Why? Simple practicality. Chewie, R2, C3P0, they're all suits. You can put anyone in the costume, and C3P0 is the only one whose voice needs to sound the same since the rest is special effects. But when you put live humans on the screen, age becomes a factor. Luke is going to be Force Ghosted, and I'm guessing Leia will die for pathos- she's established ties to the new trio (calling Finn very brave for something others said was cowardice and treason, being the big boss to Po, and sharing the loss of Han with Rey) and her connection with Kylo Ren is obvious. Kill her off for pathos, maybe a point where Kylo Ren can be brought back from the Dark Side. But if Disney is planning for Star Wars to be a yearly property, they need to complete passing the baton to new faces and retire the old ones on terms that both they and the fanbase will like.
