To anyone who says NASCAR isn't exciting:
Four fans were treated for injuries, one of which was briefly admitted to the hospital but was relatively quickly.

Let me put it this way - I've never seen a crash quite like it.

NASCAR is designed for spectacle - however, when you consider that V8 supercars are also stock cars capable of navigating a circuit (i.e. chicanes and left AND right turns) rather than an oval, its entire usefulness as a motor racing class is called into question.

You do realize NASCAR does do a couple of road courses each year, right? Though I do wish they'd do more than the two they currently run.

I will never forget this. A lot of folks ridicule NASCAR and look down on it, and I get that. I understand how fans of other motorsports don't exactly "get it". "All they do is drive in circles for 500 miles" and such. But where I'm from, the sport is more than just a sport. It's almost a religion. Sounds silly, I know...but the roots of the sport were really sewn here in North Carolina. A lot of NASCARs most popular drivers are from here. Including Dale Earnhardt. After over 20 years of trying to win the biggest race of the year, Earnhardt finally did it in '98. It's defiantly one of the most famous moments in the sports history. Arguably the most famous moment. Earnhardt was an absolute legend.

NASCAR is just V8 supercars turning left. NASCAR is awesome on road courses. The ovals are ok to watch if you've driven something like them but boring if you come in saying "hurr durr turn left this is dumb". Problem is NASCAR will never move to more road courses because the road courses aren't all owned by members of the NASCAR board. There isn't a premier road course racing series worth watching here in America and IMO NASCAR could fix that in a few short years by making a decision on behalf of the drivers and fans rather than on behalf of their checkbooks.

The context of this battle is in the description. Jules is in the Lotus btw and shows some supreme driving skills

Far from what I'd call "great" motorsport videos, but the 24 Hours of LeMons videos are always an entertaining watch:
If you don't know, basically it's endurance racing with $500 cars (not including safety equipment, tires, and brakes) along with strange awards and penalities (such as, but not limited to: welding metal silhouettes of farm animals to the roof of your car, or "Mime Your Crime").
Also, the races aren't actually 24 hours.

Again, not exactly in tune with other things in this thread, but I thought this was interesting. A lot of drivers are running vintage or vintage-inspired schemes this weekend to celebrate the Southern 500 being back to being on Labor Day weekend. It was neat to see that Bowyer's paint was done by hand (as opposed to being a wrap or just sprayed). It's based on this scheme driven by Buddy Baker, a veteran driver who recently passed away:

Bumping the thread with more NASCAR stuff. Sue me. Post race interview here. This was after his final race last night, after coming up short for his last shot at the championship. Kinda wish he did one more season, if only to say he drove the #24 car for 24 years.[/span] I'll miss seeing him on the track, but it'll be great having him in the booth for race coverage. #24ever
