Meh, I found the last couple of seasons of Top Gear cringey because it was all scripted like this new format. It was best in the earlier days when you'd see their genuine reaction to things.

Chris Evans' and Matt Le Blanc's relationship is good enough atm for it to be as good as Clarkson, May and Hammond. They had a genuinely good relationship which made it funnier.
Chris Evans was also trying to copy Clarkson's style, even the little jokes and the review of the car sounded the same. I thought he was a bit like Tesco version of Clarkson

Really didn't care for the Banshee and the Coquette around RON Raceway in the opener, Matt LeBlanc can't deliver British humor/humour, and I really hope all the races aren't around that rallycross variant. It is what it is, cars.

When I started watching, I was on Slack and had this to say: I'm about one minute in to new Top Gear and I am already finding Chris Evans kind of annoying.
Top Gear USA, which is pretty crap, had the Viper in its first episode. This new era of Top Gear has a Viper in its first episode... Oh dear..
These are my thoughts after having watched the episode: New Top Gear needs to dump Chris Evans, bad. He is just terrible. Even at his best, I still didn't find him befitting of the show at all. To be a little fair, some of the jabs at old Top Gear were ultra cringey and if he didn't write those lines, then I can't fault him for that....but I get the distinct feeling he DID write those lines. Also, maybe I just don't "get" Evans, but I just wanted him to calm down. I thought he was going to start doing flips or something.
LeBlanc fit in pretty well. With some more time and a better co-host, he could work. He's really laid back, almost like May, but the Nomad segment, which wasn't too bad, gave me the feeling of Hammond. But it's only been one episode, so it's hard to say. His relationship with Evans felt forced at times. I wasn't feeling it, but, time will tell.
Putting stars in a rally is interesting, but pointless. As was the star segment with Gordon and Jesse. Gordon seemed to just be there and at least trying to keep things interesting, and Jesse seemed like he didn't even want to be there. With Clarkson, even if I didn't know the guest (being that I'm American) I still watched every single one, if only to see if I would possibly like the guest. But Evans just did such a cheesy talk-show job of interviewing them. I suspect it may be similar to his radio show, so if you like that you'll like this, but I had to skip most of it.
The Viper vs Vette thing wasn't too bad, but just seemed cheesy and pointless. I would have preferred a proper head to head review. Would have liked to have seen Sabine in more of the episode. I've seen her in previous Top Gear episodes and liked her there.
Reliant segment was almost entirely pointless with LeBlanc being on a tow truck the whole time. They even said it was boring. Why bother devoting so much time to it then? The latter half wasn't too bad, and I really did enjoy seeing the two military classics go head to head. (I was genuinely surprised at the versatility of the Willys.) But imagine if they had included Sabine in on this with a Kubelwagen.
Also, not an important thing, but the new set looks really gaudy. Ironically, I feel like it cheapens the show.
So yea, I'll give it a few more episodes, but I didn't really like what I saw. I would much rather see Chris Harris on the main program rather than backstage. Fair warning, I didn't get to see Extra Gear, but having seen Harris on YouTube, I know he knows his stuff.

Had to watch it twice because I got 20 mins in and left because it was boring.
I hate to be that rose tinted glasses nostalgia guy but we have a channel (in aus) that plays constant top gear and I honestly never get sick of it, until they play Top Gear USA and I get bored and leave.
The USA version always felt super scripted and had ridiculous upsets and close finishes in challenges to the point of being uninteresting, unfunny, unrealistic and cringy...
And that is exactly how the new Top Gear feels.
Oh and the new host suck go back to C rate movies and TV shows LeBlanc.

So I guess I'm the only one who enjoyed the new Top Gear?
The car scenes were still as good as ever. I mean, there was none as good as Alfa Disco Volante (my personal favorite) or custom ambulances on the track one, but those were few and far between in the old Top Gear too anyway.
The star in a reasonably priced car segment was much improved. It was not as funny as some, but I can only think of a few celebrities I genuinely enjoyed on Top Gear. For me, this part of the show was always mostly boring, cuz it was (again, mostly) British personalities I didn't know talking about British things I couldn't relate to. I liked what they did in the new episode. It was fresh, relatable and quite funny. I just wish they didn't change up the track and the car. I think that did not need changing and I also dislike them invalidating the old leaderboard.
And the casting, well, I really enjoyed Matt LeBlanc. He has that laid back cool that none of the old cast had. He doesn't make silly faces or ridicule everything around him. It would have been awesome if they took him on with the original trio. I don't know if there would be enough room for 4 presenters, but if there was, he'd be the one to fill the spot. Just imagine the dynamic between the two hardcore Brits, May and Clarkson, then Hammond, the silly wannabe American and lastly LeBlanc, the ice-cool guy deflecting all their jabs.
To Chris Evans, hmm, I didn't like him either. He has a high-pitched voice, moves too quickly, is a bit too happy and overall gives the impression of a drugged up ginger bunny. I am hoping he's still just trying to find his style and will settle down a bit. I liked some of his jokes, but not that many, unfortunately.
So I guess I'm hopeful for the future of Top Gear. I enjoyed the new episode (although not as much as I'd want) and I will be rest. Now let's see what will Clarkson and company come up with.

New topgear is great,
Ofcourse Chris Evans is new to presentating and seemed a little bit overenthausiastic in the studio but that will improve futher in the season. Besides that I felt like they put to much in one episode. I mean the stars in the rallycross car did not get a proper interview or anything, just because the show was stuffed already.
Just give the season some time. It's really not that bad at all

Yeah I rewatched it with my family and on second viewing it was actually quite funny. LeBlanc made it That UK v USA challenge was really good. Seeing the Brownlee brothers was a surprise.
