Good day, my fellow Nonchalants! I'm not too technology savy and I was hoping for some advice. Allow me to elaborate: Currently, I have an HP 2000-369WM Notebook PC. Here's a stock picture of it: I've had it for ... Oh, roughly about 4 years now. I need a new laptop. The battery on it will not hold a charge. I bought a new battery for it a week ago. However, just today, the battery still will not hold a charge. I have to lug the charger with me wherever I go. Ten minutes after it's unplugged, it dies. Rather than pay a good chunk of change to get it fixed, I'll just get something new. Now, I'm a simple man. I don't need a 1,000,000 GHZ processor or a huge hard drive or any of that witchcraft. I just need something for basic web surfing, Skype, and to play music on. Finally, I don't want to spend a fortune (I'm needing to get a better vehicle). Anybody have any ideas on what would be a good fit?

parksguard that does look wonderful, but a bit much for a computer. To answer your question @alfislegend, my good chum, I'd say $350 is my absolute maximum.

Asus is my top brand. They make computers for round and under that much.

For reliability i think Asus is the top brand. Lenovo is very good also. For this price range you will mostly fall on celeron processors which are good enough for internet and skype. Have a look at this to know if the processor is any good. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Celeron_microprocessors#Pentium-M_based_CeleronsThe best are haswell based and you can look at the watts it uses to get a idea of battery life. The notebook alfislegend suggested is for example Bay Trail-M based which were developed for tablets and some laptops using it are fanless. No fan noise but the performance is lower. Alfislegend's suggestion is very good if you don't care about cpu performance and you can get an ssd with the saved money to get lightning boot up speeds.

isheep reporting in. I like it for the simplicity, works well with all other apple products, great for multimedia, and relatively virus free. I have a PC though for serious work

I would have bought a mac too if gaming compatibility was a non issue. What is wrong with windows 8 then, you don't have to use the modern UI interface if you don't want to.
