There has been talk going around for a few months now of XBOX One becoming "up-gradable", however the hell that's suppose to work given consoles unlike PC is fixed hardware. But whatever, you've likely seen this around on the internet.
Well now it seems Sony is looking into it as well. I heard it from reviewtechusa and gameranx on youtube, though I'm sure there is other places out there to see it. Seems Sony is in talks with game devs over a more powerful PS4, a Playstation 4.5 if you will. This seems to be following the same rumor line Microsoft has took. Supposedly the PS4.5 would have much stronger graphic cards and could output gaming at 4K resolution.
I know both PS4 and XB1 came out under powered for their time, but are MS and Sony really going to do this? Isn't this exactly the kind of thing that killed Saga in the console market and made them turn to software only?
They should just ride out what they got. Instead it seems like both are in a panic for some reason to be on par with PC or at least in the same reasonable level.
What do you guys think about XBOX One upgrades and Playstation 4.5?

PlayStation 4 already have PS VR coming in a few months which will require a separate processing unit on top of the required console. Perhaps a 4K upgraded console will tie in with that as well. I'm all for the idea of 4K consoles. I was a little disappointed when the new ones were first announced because they didn't support 4K so I'm all for this idea. What I'd like to see is regular PS4 titles being compatible with both the new and regular console while exclusive 4K titles will require the upgrade - either the new console or some kind of proprietary hardware add-on, similar to this processing unit that comes with the PS VR.

Just the GPU needed for 4K gaming will set you back £600+ (probably around $1000). So the console will probably be £800+ let alone you need a 4K monitor ie another £300-400. So yeah this screams bullshit to me. Consoles are for the Everyman, something everyone can afford. To put it in perspective, a PC would cost a couple grand to play games at 4K with a decent frame rate. Good Luck selling that Sony.
Sounds nothing but rumours made up by fanboys who have no clue about the cost of high resolution gaming.

That's interesting. I didn't think they could make a console stronger through add-on. Just the GPU needed for 4K gaming will set you back £600+ (probably around $1000). Sounds nothing but rumours made up by fanboys who have no clue about the cost of high resolution gaming. I see one of two thing. Either Sony hit a deal with AMD to create a affordable 4K graphics card. Or instead of true native 4K, it's more of a 4K upscale. PS4 can already do 4K on video and image if I'm not mistaken, they just can't do it on gaming. Maybe if this 4K thing turns out to be a add on instead of a new console, then maybe they'll have a machine that when combined with the PS4 natural in box power, that both together can achieve 4K? Maybe that was they could sell a cheaper proprietary item that while not 4K on it's own, when it's plugged into a PS4 it can work with the PS4 and get 4K that way. Well I guess we'll see when/if this comes out.
