Everyone loves video games! I asume this because you probably won’t be reading this if it wouldn’t be true in your case. We play to get our mind out of the daily routine and to have some fun time with friends. We dive in virtual worlds and do things we could never do in reality. That‘s kind of like our mental vacation.
My destination was Los Santos & Blaine County of GTA Online. There i could be one of the most insane Racedrivers ever imagineable. And by playing i found some like-minded players. I joined a Crew named „Nonchalant Dominance“ or short „NoDo“ founded by one of the best drivers of GTA, named Broughy1322. This crew consists of the best drivers in the game. We seek for fair and clean races that might be a bit challenging for players who don’t race often.
So this Tuesday evening – 3th of may 2016 – i was driving again with some NoDo-players and a friend of mine, br3chbohne or „br3chi“. He hosted the race. Unfortunately there were also some other players who started to crash us all the time during the race. They really p***ed me off. So we decided to turn off contact to avoid being crashed. We were driving the notorious track „Stock market crash“ (ironic huh?) and all was going pretty well until Lap 4 of 5. Suddenly the opponents were not transparent anymore and by overtaking one our cars touched and i lost control. That was very odd and i was yelling out loud „Dude!! Why the hell he can crash me? Didn’t you turn off contact before?“ But we just continued driving. So Lap 5 began and when i got closer to Checkpoint 10 i saw two players blocking the road on purpose. I got slower to avoid a collision and both players tried to trap me by pushing me on the wall with their cars. I completely freaked out. How could this be possible!? But now it was clear who manipulated the race. After i made it to the finish line i could see their names: the players „wakemad“ and „NotSoBull3tpr00f“ who belonged to the crew „FreshDumbledoreArmy“ (Tag: WAKE). I told br3chi about it and he decided to kick them from the lobby. But instead he got kicked out oft he game and he got the message „You are have been banned from Grand Theft Auto Online“ He told me he would be banned until 13th of may. At this point we were speechless.
Let’s summarize: We did some races and got rammed by some random players so we decided to race in no contact mode. Some players somehow turn contact back on and obviously try to crash and block us. Br3chi wants to kick them and gets banned. Until this point it was all just really odd. But wait for it! The best part is just about to begin.
We supposed there was just an error or some kind of malfuction about Rockstar’s anti-cheat-system. So Br3chi wanted to contact the support of Rockstar Games to get some help about this. He was looking for a phone number but the people in th forums he visited reported that the phone number doesn’t work properly. But after a long time of searching he finally found a working number where you you only get answered at certain times due to time difference. When he finally could reach someone of the support they told him to write a message via the ticket system. But after trying a lot of times without success – he told me it wasn’t even possible to send the message – he called the support again. First a nicely sounding woman answered him but then told him she is not able to help because she is not working in the responsible department. So she told him to pass this over too the ones who are able to do something about it and he received a mail with a ticket. A short time after he called again and a man answered. The man told br3chi that he understand his problem and that the woman he talked to before just lied to him. The man seemed to be trustworthy. He was right! The ticket got closed before something even happened. So the man listened to br3chi and decided to check his account. And this ist he result:
All of you know how fast it happens that when you start playing GTA Online you get into a lobby with modders and cheaters. And you know their possibilities. And more over you know how much you can do about it! Right! Except quitting you can’t do anything at all. So if someone just blows you up accept it! If he spams cars on you acccept it! Andi f he lets rain money over you accept it! Andi f you get banned for it accept it! That was exactly what happened to br3chi. There is nothing you can do when the moneyrain comes. And till you quitted the session you probably already collected a few thousands of Cash.
And what’s the answer of Rockstar? Well, they told him everytime this happens he should call the support number which costs 0,69€ per minute.
Br3chi tried to discuss about this unfair outcome and the man on the phone suddenly had connection problems as he said. Oddly enough the connection was pretty good before. At the end he hang up the phone.
So here we are now. Br3chbohne is banned and there is nothing we can or Rockstar wants to do about it. My opinion ist that Rockstar should care more about unfairly treated customers who payed 60€ for a service we expect to use without restrictions but get thrown back by corrupt people. Br3chi always was a fair and clean player. But here the hackers won.
