Do people actually use their eyes to watch anything any more? I feel like everyone records everything to watch at a later time.

At a live race, you watch the screens until a car comes past, but you can't hear it because your B&O noise cancelling earphones are broadcasting the sweet sweet sound of BBC radio commentary into your ears.

The thing with going to a race is that it’s more about the experience of seeing the cars rather than fully keeping up with every aspect of the race. The main thing for me is the sheer acceleration of the cars, the shoot out of corners in a way you can’t really capture on tv.
I was at Silverstone 2004 at Luffield, so I got to see Trulli wreck out of Bridge corner, as well as Schumi spin 3 times in the same practice session, and the bizarre pre qualifying (yes that was a thing unfortunately) where because they were forecasting rain for actual qualifying everyone was trying to go slower than each other in order to run earlier in the actual qualifying session (1 lap shootout at that point). Was totally surreal to see these crazy quick cars actively trying to do the opposite of what they are supposed to.
Nowadays I think just going to practice on Friday is your best value for money. Much cheaper and smaller crowds, and the spectacle is currently better on tv in terms of watching the race. Seeing a race once though is a must!

I remember a few years ago where you weren't being brave by not wearing ear plugs, you were just being reckless.

When I went to Spa in 2014, I made a deal beforehand with myself that I will not be living the moment through my camera. Yes, it was the race with the infamous collision with Rosberg and Hamilton after Kemmel on first lap. I have never seen a crowd so angry towards a driver, the booing was so loud at the podium ceremony it made me feel bad for Rosberg. The tv broadcast captured only a portion of the sound and even the broadcast was loud. But I was glad because Valtteri was 3rd

I don't remember how much there was booing in Italy after Hamilton won and took the lead in championship (I wonder why italians would be unhappy). But in general, the crowd was represetented more calm in the screens this year

When I went to Spa in 2014, I made a deal beforehand with myself that I will not be living the moment through my camera. I actually did the same for my Race. I made quite a few videos but most of the time, I did not look at it while filming because I wanted to get the full experience by seeing everything through my own eyes. This is why I also have quite a few moments where I filmed just the sky or the empty part of the track next to the racing car . However, some videos are quite good and I am very happy that I have them And as it was mentioned before: the live sound of a F1 car blasting past you is also what makes quite a difference compared to watching it on TV. But I was actually surprised how silent the F1 cars are. Well, "silent" is maybe not an 100% accurate description but I expected it to be much louder. Was no problem without earplugs.
