1 Hour Magic is based on a Gran Turismo format. The idea is that you finish in GT order - just barely. If everyone has a smooth race and the faster GTs can pass with the smallest time loss.
The way you out-perform your class is to pressure cars ahead into mistakes. Work with your team-mate to overtake lower GTs together. Use your slower team-mate (usually me) to defend economically when you are driving lower GTs. Use conditions to your advantage. Practice. Avoid crashing.
Extending this to a 1 hour format adds further ways to out-perform the class. Stay focussed, comfortable and co-ordinated throughout. That's hard for 1 hour! Drive for the best race time, not necessarily the based lap time. Don't crash exiting the pit lane, if you use the pit lane. Iron out small mistakes and drive safe lines, maybe not 'ideal' lines.
MrRed, you finished well above the 'expected' position for GT6. Gained 2 places from people not showing up and finished ahead of a GT5.
But I take your point, it is unfortunate you will race GT6 twice. There are so many variables and you have so much skill, I don't think it will spoil your championship overall.

I wouldn't call this a mistake by Brady . The available vehicles were published weeks ago and the classes were largely based on earlier research. A huge amount of work! Since then, R* changed the upgrades available to this vehicle in the Heists DLC, I gather. Any of us could have tested the vehicles in between the snow days. That would have discovered the change in time for the classes to be swapped. GT5 and GT6 drivers would have time to sell, buy and practice again. Even then, it would only happen if all affected drivers agreed to the change. But none of us expected this change and none of us gave comparison times until the very last minute. By which time it's too late for a fair organiser to swap the cars people will use. The gaps were set based on actual performance. That's how I see it anyway. You would expect GT6 to be last after 1 hour. But as mentioned, lower classes can out-perform their rank. I got a mid-pack position (6th out of 12) with the GT6 Oracle XS even with a few mistakes and 2 pit stops. How? Some other people had more crashes or longer battles over minor positions or more pit stops. A lot happens in an hour! mrred16pl actually finished 8th out of 12 with the Rump. GT5 should expect to finish 9th and 10th out of 12, with GT6 11th and 12. So you might be frustrated because you are used to top 3 but remember the format. Everyone races every class so it events out. They might not out-perform their class. You even finished ahead of one Minivan! Consider the effect that has on their team points over a season. @complexgaming00 got a mid-pack position using the other Minivan. 5th and 9th with everything the same...just a different driver. For a bit more history igg07 and I won using GT4 around Seoul Central. Thanks to the late heavy rain just as people are trying to pass the class below. Around a tight, tree-lined track. That helped lower classes stay ahead. It also suited the predictable FF layout more than those twitchy and wobbly FR vehicles. Also, the car suited my driving style and I've owned one for a year and really enjoy the reduced grip of rain conditions. Nearly everything went our way and that could be how things are for you next week! But I was still 20-30 seconds behind my team-mate which shows the small differences between drivers add up over 1 hour, much like the Minivan performance difference. The complexity of this championship is what draws the most pro drivers to it. Each weekend is totally different. It tests the full breadth of our ability and provides much-needed variety.

I've driven GT5 and GT6 classes so far in this championship. It's a huge test of focus, to drive largely alone for 1 hour. In a car which feels slow and might have bad handling as well. Perhaps that doesn't entertain everyone but it's a necessary part of this format and what we all signed up for. To test our skill for 1 hour with the biggest variation of vehicles in each of several classes. Looking at the team championship, the top 3 are covered by less than 10% of the points awarded so far. (Each team has over 100 points, all 3 are within 10 points.) That shows things are balancing out well and the lower classes can have strong results if the team prepares well and delivers what the format needs. Now, about this specific race... Van endurance turns out to be mega!Hugely entertaining, from the perspective of GT1 anyway. RON is a layout I adore. I fundamentally dislike the CP positioning style as it makes a pure track deeply unintuitive and hard to learn. You can't drive to the visible indicators. Those long, long, long sequences of wide, flat corners with perfect sight lines redeem it. Bison would have been my vehicle of choice here - I've owned one for years but rarely get to use it. A very dynamic vehicle. It slides and leans. It can even roll over! It has secrets which can be unlocked with patience and poise, to make it perform. Many thanks to the many people I overtook cleanly during as the GT classes played out. Some very entertaining cutbacks which went on for 5-10 corners in a row! Racing room is easy to give on this track and I could rely on just enough space to slide a Burrito past most racers. Brady mentioned seeing 4-way battles right until the end. There were a couple of times I encountered drivers in their own battle. When they went off-line it held each other up a bit and I was able to sneak through. Excellent awareness from all involved!

Yeah, I'd say consistent laps are about 1 second slower per minute of driving.

A few laps I saw during an informal 5 lap test just now. Paradise 2m47.8 AjAxel10Minivan 2m53.5 or ".6 for complex and jayhuddyBison 2m44.995 for BenMillard (not driving it in race and owned for a long time) Bison 2m46.549 @smelter_nl (improving a lot from 2m54 earlier in topic as he followed me to learn lines - oops!) igg07 aka ggamer is getting online at 7pm. At the moment I will spawn my van for gGamer because he ran out of crews to apply our special paint.

How much is it? I could put in £10-20 to help this month if that would help. If it is delayed, maybe we can require each team use both cars after all? That way all these under-used cars will be present in good numbers. That kind of seems like the point to this event concept.

Ah, if it's too late then so be it. A team only championship with both cars required would have been interesting. That's how multi class works over the course of a season - everyone and every team will drive every class.
With only 30 car spaces and 2 championships it's going to require some tough, tough decisions. There will be tears in LSC before these championships start.

"Teams are permitted to use the same vehicle" The idea is to use cars we won't usually use. We have teams of 2 drivers. We have a choice of 2 cars. Let's use both cars within each team!complex and I are Team 4 and we are Team Epsilon Program! (Sorry I only have van and sedan photos.)

Please change topic title to give month name. It currently indicates 1st February for many nations! I thought the 1 Hour Magic championship by Brady would finish before this started. Now I realise this starts just 1 week awa. And I have both long races in different cars and tracks on same day, one right after the other.

You have to be Representative to sign up to events anyway, was mentioned. So he is getting a big favour to be in any events until then - even as a reserve.

Oracle XS. Sells for $160k. Only good thing about it. You can swap my finish position with @guilhas-couto10 as I didn't see it written anywhere that we wait at the finish to stop people getting DNF. I thought he gave me the place as we had such a fun race for a few laps together and he was only a reserve. Brady thanks for organising! Sorry to igg07 that I got mid-field position in the end. Lost about 30 seconds on my own mistakes, another 10 from being rammed a couple of times. I was around the reference lap apart from that. Some other drivers were way below the reference. I got passed barely after mid distance by mrred, think someone knows a trick or two for the Cognoscenti. Several other drivers caught me the next lap, about 12 out of 20. I got one back but eventually they outpaced me with the higher GT. Then I had the long fair battle with Guil, he eventually did a great last 1.5 laps to gap me by a few seconds. Apex was lapped traffic but interfered with Guil and I in those crucial 2 laps. The gap from me to Guil was only 5 seconds on the penultimate turn, when I checked for the last time. Please remember, when you are already lapped and at the back of the field by 1 minute...don't get involved with other people who are racing for final position.

igg07 will not be able to attend. @imawesome004 please assign a reserve so they can practising Oracle XS with me. It's a very slippery car. Do reserve points go to the team they are standing in for? If not...this championship might be more about attendance than racing. You can buy Oracle XS from in-game website. They usually appear all over San Andreas after doing some jobs. (Even if you don't own one.) EDIT: I can type the gaps into the text chat when the job launches. Once form a grid, imawesome can choose which minute GT6 starts on. From there, everyone can tell their start time from the gaps. Those could be typed into the chat for 100% clarity. -1 Robodark as race starter. Let him race instead.

I remember racing a Sentinel XS for quite some time, always losing. No power, no grip, no feel. Totally the opposite to what that car should be! At least you aren't driving an Oracle XS. Feels like I got the 'yacht update' on old gen.

In the 20th century, many real championships let you drop your worst 1 or 2 results.
1960's Formula One for example. If you did not start or you DNF, that is a result you could drop.
This would be a lifeline to people who disconnect in the GTA world. Original MCES was scored with worst 2 results dropped, iirc?
Letting reserve drivers score points on behalf of the driver they replace was allowed in some 20th century racing. It would make sense for a hobby championship like NoDo in GTA, imho. Reserves assigned randomly just like the way teams are formed would keep it fair.
