Sup @pezby Grumples_Plox (grimreaper977) Tonyborbony Kaleeb42
Pezzles and I ran some last night our time. My kit out is as follows:
ASSAULT RIFLE: Heckler & Koch G36 Rifle. Unlocked with uPlay points of which I have like 300. I don't know why. I've got upgraded optics on it, and a foregrip.
SIDEARM: Fabrique-Nationale Five-seveN 5.7mm pistol. Pez and I got this from Ocoro province. I also got a 1911A1 but it's not the Kimber Warrior or another 1911 variant. It's the 7+1 Colt. It's much easier to get than the Five-seveN but the FN pistol has a 20 round mag which we upgraded to 30 rounds (!), and all round amazing stats. The .45 does more damage, but is eclipsed in every way.
RIFLE: MSR - same as Beta. We got this from the mines - pretty much just flew up there to grab it.
I finished off the starting area story missions just so I could explore elsewhere with you guys later. You know the story mission before you go to the hunting lodge and kill the first area bosses? Where you have to get a guy out from a locked room at the back of a church in a small town full of sicarios?
I was about 380m out from the church, on a bluff above the town. Effective range, with the advantage of height, was between 300-380m. 7 from 7 kills with no missed shots; basically the ranging up to half a klick seems to be just dropping the cross hair one notch. Easy to schwack tangos this way.
But the 8th shot missed and a lot of guys came in and as I mortared them with too much glee - note, please, that I also used mortars on civilians playing golf, to Pezby's horror - that if we run in a group we should have two snipers and two guys with LMGs for when shit inevitably goes south.

I should make a post so this appears in my participated thingey. I know nothing about guns but mine do pew and my enemies drop dead when they do pew so is all good. =) I went ahead and got the sniper from the mine after Pezby recommended it, mines are a pain in the ass until I found out that the room with the sniper is super handy for picking enemies off. Just make a whole lot of noise and they come running single file ready to be pewed in the face. So I pewed them all in the face only to be disappointed because other than the sniper and some intel there's absolutely fuck all in the mines....

The issue with the weapons is basically this; there are five categories of long guns, and we can carry two long guns plus a sidearm (pistols). Sniper Rifles - Longest range. Useful in silently picking off guards from great range, avoiding detection etc. Assault Rifles - silenced primary assault weapon for front line engagement Shotguns - Close quarters weapons with high damage, low range. I'm not sure if they can be silenced in GRW. Sub-machine guns - close quarters support weapons. Light machine guns - heavy support weapons. Loud. "Ideally" speaking, you could create roles for a team and assign weapons according to their usefulness and the role. Sniper: the SMG would best suit a sniper for close quarters defence when enemies get within the effective range of the sniper rifle. So they'd run Sniper/SMG/pistol. Support - For when shit is introduced to the fan, they're carrying assault rifle + LMG and use the fact it has a 100-200 round magazine to lay down suppressive fire and cover breachers in retreat. Breachers - the first into the fray. Shotgun + assault rifle. So playing the example out: Sniper = Pezzles (he likes watching from afar). He finds a good vantage point to the west of the target zone where he can view about 90% of the enemy. Support = Kebab. Because as an American he can handle 200 round box magazines of freedom. Breachers = Enders and Tony. Tony, Ender and Kebab do the sneaky sneaky infiltration whilst Pez provides overwatch. Pez gets a beautiful shot off on a tango, only for the body to fall off a roof and be seen. Shit gets loud. Ender and Tony move to the objective point, leapfrogging between vantage points. Kebab gets the LMG out and follows until we reach the primary target building. We breach, he covers the exit, and then we leapfrog out of the AO to an RV point where Pezby isn't but should be with the chopper because he's too busy fapping. In harder zones on maximum difficulty we should certainly take this approach as a tactical gospel. But at the start, we carry whatever suits us and our playstyle. I want to explore this building @pezby:

im just having fun stealthily murdering people. I've gotten pretty decent at clearing out bases without alerting anyone. Takes patience and planning.
I also parachuted into a few areas to grab 5 skill points without being detected. There's one on an island. Parachute straight down onto the building. Kill one tango. Grab the 5 skill points. Hop in a chopper and fly away.

I still have to get used to taking bullet drop into consideration when sniping. But my playstyle is generally: take out everyone I can from afar with a sniper then go in with a silenced.... Something... Assault rifle I think and pick off the ones I couldn't get with my sniper. When Shit hits the fan I take the suppressor off and try to not get killed.
Though I like the idea of assigning roles =P

I was pretty tired last night and not being careful, but I had Pezby to take care of me so all was fine. And I did manage some decent sniping to there was that.
The key for me is getting good weapons. Going to get the TAR-21, the MSR, and Five-seveN are "must haves" in my book. I also wouldn't mind finding a 30 round mag for the TAR.
But after a few attempts to interrogate a tango in a convoy where we died horribly, I swapped out the MSR for an LMG (just the starting area one). 90 round drum, huge spray, but manageable. Made a huge difference. The assault rifles are good for a ground sweep or controlled firefight; for a situation where you are outnumbered AND the OPFOR is aware of your presence, an LMG is basically the best bet.
Also props to @pezby for getting a half-km sniper kill.

I'll have you know that it was 581 meters not a mere half-km! =P
Also, mind telling me where you got the five-seveN? Don't feel like sweeping the entire province for it =P

There are two pistols in Ocoro - the province to the east/right of the starter.
The 1911 A1 is in the south east corner along the river. It's really easy to get, and it basically unguarded.
The Five-seveN is up in the middle of the province at a base on the river. Best to do this with Pezby or Kaleeb or both.
The 1911A1, if you can only solo it, is a good handgun. 7+1 in the clip isn't ideal but the stopping power is significantly higher than any other handgun I've seen. Five-seveN is all round excellent though and would be my recommendation.

I'll try to solo it tomorrow after work if Pezzers and/or Kebab and/or you aren't available and when I inevitably fail I'll just run with my tail between my legs and try the 1911A1 =P And if I fail that I'll just wait until I can get some coop action going for the Five-seveN =P

The 1911A1 is an incredibly good pistol though. Since handguns are CQWs the 8 round mag shouldn't pose a challenge. I've been swapping between it and Five-seveN often.

Oh. I also found a AH-1 Cobra Attack helicopter at a Unidad base. Only a two seater but fast as fuck and can rain hellfire down on enemies.
