So when joining friends races I've often seen the warning '' Lobby uses different targeting mode'' thats not a problem.
Then last night the following one poped up!
''The session you are trying to join is using a different targeting preference. you can change your preference in the settings tab of the pause menu in grand theft auto v. Joining a new gta online session. do you want to change your targeting mode?
So I only had 2 options ''Yes and No'' both of them just brought me back to the lobby I was in in the first place.
I even went back to story mode and changed my targeting but it did not make any difference.
Anyone have any ideas?
Cheers,
Sully

However, I'm lucky as if I press A to change it but join the session, it works for me, but it still does mean that I end up in auto-aim then free-aim over and over. Hopefully something will be sorted mate.

Whatever is happening: You can change your targeting preference in the Settings menu. Note that you'll have to be in an offline mode (SP/Creator) to change it.
