As said, the first 5 millions customers can get a copy of PayDay 2 for free, forever. Not the game of the year, but hey, a free game is always good to have, amirite.

It's a great game, if you've never played it.

It's a great game, if you've never played it. I've personally never played it, even though I played a lot of PayDay 1, mostly because of the abusive use of DLCs. Always pushed me away from buying the game. But hey, if it's free, not gonna complain about it

That all comes with the Ultimate Edition which, if I'm not mistaken, isn't free. Poor game design choices, questionable balance and difficulty design, a plethora of overpriced DLC and, to top it off, starting off Crimefest 2015--an event all about unlocking free content--with the introduction of a thing that years prior they said would never happen: microtransactions. Of the pay-to-win variety. They're gone now, but I found that a nigh unforgivable sin. They seem to be trying to turn over a new leaf which is admirable, but they for me and others like me, they've lost us as customers for good. If that doesn't bother you or you've forgiven them by now, I'm not one to tell you your business. Boycotting games never works (ever), but at least be aware of who you're buying from. Like I said, maybe they're trying to turn a new leaf. I don't know. Just providing a little historical context.

Oh I'm aware, I meant it in the way that I never wanted to invest money in the game due to all the DLCs. But if I get the base game for free, I'm not going to complain. It won't make me buy any of the DLCs anyway, I never buy any of them on any game to begin with.

Until you find out just how much content you're missing out on without the Ultimate Edition. I wanna say you're missing out on as much as 85% of the game with no DLC.

Which was fine up until every DLC just became a 5-10$ reskin or a paid promo. And then they topped it by adding Pay2Win features. Sometimes I miss this game as it was (and maybe still is) one of the best coop shooters around, but imho Overkill completely ruined it.

Since it isn't something I can see myself enjoying a terrible amount I just got the base game for free and will likely keep it at that unless it convinces me otherwise, so I wouldn't say I exactly bought it from them, at best I opened up a chance to maybe become a paying customer at some point.

Glad I'm not alone in thinking so. Sometimes I feel so alone in thinking that Overkill have taken a fantastic game and completely ruined it. I hate the fact that I have to hate the game, but I only have Overkill to blame for it.

Yep, you hit the nail right on the head there. Personally I stopped playing the second they introduced pay2win (and even lied about it) along with pretty much everyone I knew, so you are definetly not alone. That whole thing was an absolute fiasco and the actions that followed (or rather didn't follow) weren't really any better. Damn shame, really.

To this day, the top scoring thread in the PAYDAY Subreddit is Fuck you overkill. We should not be okay with what they did. I'd argue we should NEVER be okay with it. They've lost my trust. They've lost the trust of a lot of people.
