Anyone else having the problem or not being able to connect to SC with GTA IV? Profile is connected to SC and password is correct. I can start up the game fine with LIVE working but not SC.

I have the same problem as Mark has. Although I could accept a multiplayer race recently, so maybe all is okay?

I don't think SC is required, I was able to make a lobby with only the GFWL thing and it showed that name in the lobby.

Well, it shows me on the phone I need SC to go online.
What I find the strangest is that I didn't even change my installation from last time and it didn't even wanna start up at all at first.
I remember from last time there was something with not needing SC anymore I believe, but I cant find anything about that beside changing paul.dll to paul.dll.disabled which disables it in the game. But that means it still gives you the phone message.

Yes I have, I've tried 2 hours to get this game to go online for the last days and still nothing... After installing the patch again it now for whatever reason starts to show me SC and crashes on startup even...

Make sure you dont have scripthook or asi loader because it crashes the game on patch 8. You probably dont but its the only reason i can think it crashes on startup

Well, I start my game like Baron described it (LaunchGTAIV.exe). I then get this dialog: (Yes it's in german, hopefully you can recognize it somewhat at least). There is options to link your SC account or make a new one, but you can just start the game without it. I can also join multiplayer without a problem. The text says that SC is only there so that you can compare your stats to your friends in SC, but it also explicitly says that SC is not needed to play the game. My game is on the newest patch (just downloaded it from Steam). Maybe try verifying the files? |

You don't need SC to play multiplayer. GTA IV uses GFWL for the multiplayer invites and adding friends etc. so anything you do through the SC dropdown thing in V is done via GFWL in IV, which uses your Microsoft account.
