Heyo everyone, so here is what I experienced in my brief time here. This is gonna be a long one, Im sorry. And its not a complain, it's a suggestion.
So, to begin with, I wanna make clear, that you can tell me how inexperienced I am, and how I should practice, stick around much more, but this is just a notice, and a suggestion, which I think might worth a consideration.
The first official event which I played through was the "wet weather specialist" which seemed interesting, though my lack of experience in rain told me that I shouldn't expect a glorious result from it, but rather go for the fun. Yep. Came dead last. DNF-d most of the races. It wasn't fun, it was frustrating, at least for me. Not because I lost, but because I couldn't enjoy simply driving the car around, trying to catch up to others or beat my own time. That might just be me, in which case, ignore me, and don't pay attention to this.
But I wanted action, racing, actually feeling like I'm competing with someone. I know, I know, I can't say this enough that I need practice, but still, those who are ahead of me, kept breakboosting, double-clutching and using all those mechanics that need the exploitation of the broken game engine, which I do not want as a decisive factor for races (kerbboosting is fine by me, that is something that everyone can do and know of if they are somewhat decent in racing).
After this I thought: hmm, maybe Im just not good at racing in rain, so I joined a daily playlist which was told to be far less competitive. True, I only DNF-d half of the races. It was a bit better, but still, the top 10 that trigger the DNF counter was way too ahead with the rest of the top and I barely had anyone to battle.
Now you can tell me, that "ohh, it's clear then that you just lack experience and practice" hold up a second, I never doubted that.
BUT.
I joined the "freshmen event" for the newcomers and those who aren't pro racers in Nodo and guess what, it was a whole lot of fun!
I didn't win at all, the best I got was a 3rd, but I didn't care, because it felt like I'm competing even if it's only for top 10, and improving my racing lines didn't only mean that I lose 1 less seconds a lap from the 19th position, but actually improved my position too! I had people to battle, I had fun, it was what I came here for! I was so pumped up, and it was after that when I joined the daily playlist and I got demolished again. And then I thought: Damn, there must be people of my level here too, and they must feel similar to me!
So here is what I ask, if it is not implemented already: isn't there a section/weekly event or something not just occasional, where people of lesser experience can sign up to? and if there isn't would it be possible to make one regularly? Im sure this would help newcomers experience the taste of clean racing in a more competitive field, yet, not getting demolished by the pros of Nodo, which count quite a few people by this time, Im sure. This theory is also supported by the guys I've seen feeling bad about how bad they are, because they got lapped 2 times in a race. Racing should be for fun, but losing by this much, not even being able to finish even when you only get clean laps is just frustrating... (Im not talking about particularly me, but it does apply, as I stated before.)
(Of course, it also is a factor, that I am on a laptop, playing at 20 fps, and I have no chance - due to circumstances - that I will ever get another device, at least not before 2-3 years, so don't tell me to go get a proper PC.)
Please tell me if making an event like this would be possible regularly or not, and if yes, then please let us see how it performs in terms of interest by people. I'm sure, since Brough's recent video brought quite a bit of interest, there are people who look for racing like this. I believe everyone can decide whether they are a pro, who shouldn't attend to these races or a newbie, who needs improving, such as myself, which I would gladly do, if I had at least a tad bit of fun in it ^^

Hah, so it's not only me... I experienced the same or similar. Sure i expected some people that are way more into GTA racing than me with lot more experience and skill. The first events I attended, showed me that this is racing "on a whole other level". But i knew it and expected it. Sure, I was very excited and nervous, so a lot of mistakes crept in. Chose the wrong cars, had some technical issues (idk, on one race the car drove as slow as a snail for the first two laps , empty controller batteries, silly stuff like that), but I don't take it too seriously. I think with time and some practice and training there will be improvement, at least i hope I will attend the daily and future events, today it's Improvement Playlist, sounds like this is the right thing for me. Hopefully we’ll see each other later...,🙂

There was a weekly playlist for new players however there wasn't enough people interested in joining so it stopped. I'm not sure if the event this weekend was a one off or whether it will become a regular event again as there seems to be a decent number of new people joining.

This sounds like a great idea in my opinion (although I'm not sure if something like this already exists on a regular basis either.) It would probably be best to start out as a weekly playlist exclusively for the lower skill level people and then you (or whoever) could eventually make a proper event out of it. I'm not sure how many people you would be able to gather up regularly, but sometimes it's better for lower skilled people to not race in full 30 player lobbies. It could be named "Driver's Ed" or something catchy lol

That 'shitty' feeling of dnf and being last, we all had to battle through there at one point some way or another sadly. When i joined NoDo it took me a few months even to be able to finish races. And yes i will go to the advice of, hang in there, it will get better. (kept it short ) Now your suggestion on the other hand is very interesting and might actually be a fun idea to work with. If enough people are interested for it, we might just host one of the upcoming events up with like an ruling of only being in the crew for 1-2 months or so. Maybe something small event wise, like 2 x 30 min race or so

silkie It's possible there are some people that have been around 3 or 4 months that are still lagging behind. Maybe instead of time-in-crew being the deciding factor to enter, we could just weed out the too-talented with lap times around a few tracks? Might make it more of a pain to setup though. Just a thought.

On that note, I am in the crew for almost a year now, but I only got around to race in it properly, so maybe instead of saying 1-2 month membership, just go with "people who consider themselves beginners" since I am sure no "pros" will be scumbags enough to just go in so that they can roast everyone in the race, and probably you already know those pros by names anyway. (kind of like Fiona said)

And yes, I would like to battle you too someday ^^

Sounds like a good idea, but just keep in mind that you have to try to push yourself to race with people of higher pace. If you surround yourself with people of the same pace, you don't have a reason to go any faster.
It's nothing to worry about when you can't keep up, at least you're constantly improving by pushing yourself.

We are looking into setting up a weekly welcome to nodo playlist on the PC side (not sure about consoles, will have talks with them), like we previously had a while back. It will be almost identical to the event that we hosted the other day. The only people who will be allowed will be either off the pace in the daily playlist or new to the crew. No promises though as we are still figuring the logistics of it out.
For now, hold on. We don't want too lose you new guys who're keeping the community fresh.

So yea i have been thinking on this while going on a shopping spree with miss silkie. Its gonna be hard to set a 'ruling' who is allowed in and who not. First i thought ALL people who havent done an event in NoDO, but that leaves NightinGery already since he joined this weekend. so thats a no go... Then maybe a ruling would be, everyone who joined in 2018, after NoDo went through the changes, it brought back some new life to the crew. But then again some people have signed up on the forums in 2016/2017, who have never really joined the daily, nor joined an official event, would be able to join either so yea. its something we (moderators) will discuss about and see what kind of ruleset we can put on this. Or the best way to handle this off. Feel free to post any suggestions here or in PM, who knows someone might come up with a brilliant idea us moderators cannot find

It's not really that difficult and this format worked when jt33396 hosted this on PS4 back in 2016. The experience/quicker guys could be forced to use 'slower' cars in order to be on pace with the newer guys which will not only help them improve their racecraft, but also improve their awareness of different strengths/weaknesses of the different cars and thus how to utilise these to your advantage.

Yeah, I feel like 2-3 pros would be beneficial for these playlist, just so that people can see what they have to "catch up to" And that wouldn't trigger the DNF timer either so it should be fine, unless there is an overflow of attendants which I don't think will be, but there will be at least 20 people based on the welcome event.

I am on board with this idea! I haven't been here very long but I know I want an environment that is more on my skill level at least for a bit longer so I can work on consistency, especially with other people around me (Although that may be due in part to my very underpowered laptop.. c'est la vie).
