Sometimes you dont want to race, you just want to survive. Now you can do it with other people from NoDo (or at least you can in November). Coordinate it here, or share screenshots, good finds, places of note and all the other things us Fallout players like to share. Friends don't nuke friends. This thread may get re-made before the game drops as it has turned in to a general discussion about the game.

This will either be awesome or be extremely disappointing, but I've wanted to at least try Fallout Online for years. So I can't wait for this to come out.

It'll be what people make it, but for some reason I just do not see it being disappointing. I think it is going to be a whole new, and really engaging experience that some will never like, some might not like at first and some will love off the bat. But I think it'll be unique and I think it'll feel like a real Fallout game. Bring it on.

If it gets a community like GTA has then the game might turn out to be terrible. But if people banned together it could be awesome. It all determines how the game is balanced and what ultimately turns out to be most effective, be it going hostile or be it cooperating.
Luckily there seems to already be news out there that Bethesda are taking steps against greifing. From what I hear they are preventing camping outside the vault to ambush new players, and I've heard they have measures to prevent spawn killing as well. So good to hear that Bethesda is taking steps against griefing, unlike Rockstar.
So in GTA someone can kill you and keep spawn killing you every time you respawn. But it seems in Fallout 76 someone can kill you and get whatever the reward for that will be, but they can't keep killing you over and over. So that's good to hear.

Yeah, it sounds a bit like they'll spawn you elsewhere on the map to deter this sort of thing. I think that it will not have the same problem (too many kids aged 8-12) as GTA is a lot faster as a game, where F76 will most likely being a long game and require patients and tactisc, which will draw a more mature audience. Or at least that is the dream. When I join a GTA lobby and hear the squealers I just feel like I am playing a kids game ... I don't want that feeling in F76. If you understand where I am coming from.

The odds of being disappointing are great; the odds of it being real Fallout, without Obsidian involved, are low

Yea I get ya. I wonder how long it'll take for parents to start taking the ESRB ratings on games seriously? I always use this example that no sane parent would ever go out and rent their child a X rated porno movie to watch, but they will go out and buy them M rated (18+) games like GTA with murder simulation, partial nudity, and sex in it.
Like... the fuck?
It's fucking 2018 and people still think "oh a video game, that means it's automatically alright by children, the rating doesn't matter."
Like seriously... the fuck?

I enjoyed both F3 + F4 games immensely, I still play F4 time-to-time and I think they fit perfectly in to the fallout universe.

OK so the fact you like 3 and 4 basically proves my point.
Fallout 1 and 2 are isometric, turn based RPGs with heavy emphasis on narrative and worldbuilding. They have a very distinct aesthetic and very distinct tone.
Fallout 3 didn't really feel tonally like 1 and 2.
Fallout: New Vegas, made by Obsidian (i.e. devs from Fallout 1 and 2), nailed the tone and proper Fallout fans loved it for that reason.
Fallout 4 called itself Fallout and despite impressive breadth had the depth of a puddle.
If you're talking about "real" Fallout but basing it on 3 and 4 you're not really talking about "real" Fallout. It would be like saying the over the top action in GTA V isn't "real" GTA because of the sombre tone of 4, missing the fact that actually 4 was tonally an outlier.
In simple terms, if you're a Fallout fan from the original game, there's no way Fallout 4 isn't complete shit.

In simple terms, if you're a Fallout fan from the original game, there's no way Fallout 4 isn't complete shit. I don't think I've ever played 1 & 2, I've played a bit of New Vagas at least, I remember me and a friend completing 3 together and 4 we both owned it and beat it ourselves separately.
I mean I get where your coming from. While I liked 4's addition of a voiced main character, in my mind that was no reason to change how the text boxes on screen worked. I would of still preferred knowing what my character would say before he/she actually said it. And some stuff you can do it 4, like bring Strong into the Brotherhood ship doesn't make much sense. And yes it would be nice if actions had consequences. Like in the Nuka-World DLC I helped the raiders takes over the Commonwealth. Preston gets pissy about my decision and literally says something along the lines of "I don't like you but I'll still follow you". I thought for sure the Minutemen would become my enemies, honestly I don't give a shit about them, I was ready to slaughter them all. The only thing I care about is keeping the Brotherhood on my good side. But apparently they remain your allies.
So Fallout 4 certainly had it's issues, what I listed was only a small bit of the things done wrong. However I still liked the game despite that. I enjoyed the story and DLC for the most parts, Nuka-World was alright but I really loved Far Habour the most from the DLC content. It's always great fun to explore the world and go hunting Deathclaws, Fog Crawlers, Super Mutants, etc as well as just to take in the world itself. And the basic game-play while lacking features from other games, is still the smoothest and best operating in the entire series.
So I has enough fun with it to balance out the issues the game has. But that's just my opinion.

A promising outlook on the game.
Also I forgot about this, but this game will have a bata. So eventually we're bound to hear first hand player experience of how this will turn out. Actually I believe Orhorn said he'll be checking out the bata to, his youtube channel is basically build on the Fallout series, lore videos, etc. So he should give us a good idea of this game from a singe player point of view.

Well, that's strange to add multiplayer elements for single-game title

I do not agree, as you're probably aware, and i think it is unfair to label F4 "complete shit" when it really isn't. I think you can like both new + old Fallouts. I am not going to try and change your mind/ argue my points coz I do not think you really want to hear it. But, maybe if you give 76 a chance, you might like it? If not as a canonical game, then maybe just as a Fallout-inspired, multi-player "softcore" survival game.

As a post-apocalyptic FPS it's fine; the issue is that it's "not Fallout", if that makes sense. That's all.
