Ok, when the Shoutbox was changed to "Announcements" we were told that announcements on the forums and announcements on Slack would serve two different purposes. It was the entire justification for having two different channels for what seemed to be the same purpose. Slack would be used for things like R* newswire stuff and the forums would be used for promoting events.
Fair enough.
Until we started getting announcements in slack for upcoming events. Why is this? Why do we need two different announcement channels for the purpose of promoting events?

That's because the Slack announcements channel incorporates the Google calendar which we are using for events.

Not everyone uses Slack 24/7.

Not everybody is on slack. The announcement channel on slack is an extra bonus that gives reminders of events the day before. The forum announcements announces events when the event is created. They are still complementary. If you don't like the slack announcements you can silence it.
