Since the release of this game on PC I used to play on keyboard and reaching not bad results until I found this crew and realized that using of controller providing much better results. So I decided to buy Xbox One controller especially for racing games few months ago but still can't beat myself on keyboard in GTA. All my lap times are a few seconds worse than on keyboard(examples attached). So I need some tips how to use controller properly in races and achieve better results. Hope you can help me with that p.s hope i chose the right board for this thread. sorry for bad english

I think it's just a matter of getting used to using a controller since it sounds like you've been using a keyboard for a long time.

Exactly, you can't just completely change your control scheme and expect to be instantly as good. Kind of a weird example but I used to play Smash with a Wiimote and I switched to Gamecube controller. I sucked at first but eventually got better than I was with the Wiimote. Take that example with a grain of salt though because I'm awful at Smash and fighting games in general, I only played it because most of my irl friends play competitive smash

I get the same laptime with both controller and keyboard, but I don't know if that's because I'm good with keyboard or bad with controller.

Since the release of this game on PC I used to play on keyboard and reaching not bad results until I found this crew and realized that using of controller providing much better results. Out of interest what made you 'realise' this. I used to think the same must be true and switched to controller, but I hated the (imho) lessened camera control and switched back to keyboard after about a month. What did help me, I believe, was buying a better keyboard with Cherry mx red keys. I feel I'm fairly competitive racing in GTA and don't think I'd be faster with a controller. Out of interest , and because I haven't tried it for a while, I just did some hot laps around Cutting Coroners GP in my Massacro. I did two sets of 10 laps and got within 2 tenths of Broughy's time. I wasn't what I'd call happy with any of my laps and I'm fairly sure if I spent more time at it I could shave another 0.3 - 0.5 seconds of my time. And yes I know Broughy's time is on another platform so not directly comparable but it is still something of a benchmark. The last time I tried, quite a while ago, I was a few seconds off his time so I must have improved Lines and smoothness make faster times and I remain unconvinced that a controller is better than keyboard, for me at least. YMMV

I used to always move camera with mouse in races. Maybe this is the main problem for me. Anyway, I don't want to stay on keyboard because there are some useful techniques with controller like throttle control, flicking the stick to prevent oversteer, better start techniques, easier mdsb(imho), short shifting etc. I probably said some stupid things, correct me if so

I get the same laptime with both controller and keyboard, but I don't know if that's because I'm good with keyboard or bad with controller. Honestly keyboard and controller won't really have much difference in terms of laptime. The advantage of controller is the extra precision with steering, braking and the throttle that can be a real help with less controllable cars and just generally in battling. Not to say battling is impossible on keyboard, I've battled with you before Jeffrey and you still put up a good fight, it just helps

The lack of throttle control can be solved by taking slightly different lines. I only get annoyed when we don't do a start on the countdown, because I get so much wheelspin with certain cars.

I probably said some stupid things, correct me if so I don't think so But IMHO all of this can be done adequately on a keyboard. Now I think about it though one definite advantage of a controller is the throttle control for a non boost (eg sticky bomb) start and also restarting a super car on a upwards slope. You get a lot of wheel spin with the keyboard and no amount of quick tapping seems to help reduce this. It's all I matter of opinion but while the consensus seems to be that contoller is better I remain unconvinced

To add to what has been already said, in GTA V you can get very close to controller pace with keyboard. That is true.
However I do want to point out that a lot of racing games are less forgiving to keyboard users, so it's still worth getting used to a controller in the long run. The more analog control you have, the better.
It will take quite some time to get used to it though. When I first switched from keyboard to controller back when DiRT 2 was relatively new, it was a very painful process. A lot of walls were eaten and silly spinouts occured. But seeing how much my consistency improved a month or two down the line was so worth it.

Yep i was going thru this too and finally i drop my controller in dark corner of my room and went back to keyboard. Every day i was getting angry because i know i can do better, on keyboard at least i know i suck i cant fell the car at all on every corner it was like "jesus take the wheel and save those who are near me" now i just sometimes use it to star a race and then switch back.

Oh, I agree. You can't really change from controller to keyboard and be awesome at it. I have the same exact problem, specially with GTA games. I'm way more used to keyboard for shooters but I love driving with a joystick, it's more accurate for my tastes, you get a "feel" of the car and it's easier to predict how it's going to react. With keyboard, it's a lot harder, it's harder to control your throttle, braking, etc. You either go all the way or nothing.
I think, with the right amount of practice. You can adapt yourself to joystick (in your case), you just need to practice and get a feel of the cars, tracks, etc. Until everything feels "right", I can tell that you will make more mistakes than usual. Don't worry! because it's more than normal, I still can't drive with a keyboard and I been playing games on PC for a long time, so there's that.
