So I made a post asking about interest for a biweekly hotlap challenge
(http://nodo.freeforums.net/thread/9942/weekly-hotlap-event-interest-thread)
To a not so raving response, but when I asked on the Slack channel people seemed way more into it, so I'm throwing this together as a test event to see how many numbers It'll get.
WEEKLY HOTLAP CHALLENGE
Sundays, 7PM
(Working Title)
Welcome to the Nonchalant Dominance weekly Hotlap Challenge. This event functions a little differently than other events you can sign up for on the Event Section, so make sure you read everything below as it explains in detail how to join.
So, what is this?
This event is basically to cater for the hotlappers and those with terrible internet connection in the GTA Racing Community, and to possibly get more use out of the Official Hotlap Spreadsheet pinned in the racing section.
What's Hotlapping?
Hotlapping (in GTA terms anyways) is basically taking a single car around a track in non-contact and try to achieve the quickest laptime possible in a car.
That sounds boring, why would I do this?
Yeah, its an acquired taste I'll admit, but there are some benefits that have been discussed in length on these forums about hotlapping, the main ones including increasing consistency, track memorization, bragging rights (Kappa), and increasing one's overall pace. Some people also have no choice but to race non-contact due to connectivity issues, or time zone differences block people from joining regular events, so this can act as a way for members in odder timezones to participate in the community.
There is also a competitive edge to this event, its not simply "Here's a track, have fun". Participants are given points every week depending on who places the fastest lap for that week, which totals up at the end of the season.
Okay I guess, what are the details?
Down below my friend.

Format:
The track and car selection for that week will be revealed 24 hour before the start of every week (in this case, the 28th of May for round 1). Tracks will mainly be on road circuits with an average laptime of 1-3 minutes, though there may be a week where the track is an offroad track, and a appropriate vehicle will be selected.
Class choice for the week may be one of any of the following classes:
Supers, Sports, Muscle, Sedans, Compacts, Coupes, Off Roads (No bikes)
Vehicle choice within that class may be open (you can pick whatever you think will get the fastest lap on the track) or restricted to a group of cars, or a single vehicle. This will be detailed below.
You have from the moment I release the given cars and track on Sunday at 3PM EST (7PM UTC) until 11:59PM EST (3:59AM UTC) the following Saturday to give me your best achieved lap time.
Once lap time submission is closed, I will no longer take any lap times, I will total up everyone's times, and sort you guys out by fastest lap, and give score accordingly.
Because this is still just a test, it will only be two weeks long, so only two tracks will be selected.
RULES:
1) You must at least be a member of the Nonchalant Dominance Forums.
2) To sign up for the event, just say so, and eventually give me a laptime on this week's track with photographic evidence of said laptime.
3) You have from the track and car reveal time until 11:59PM the following Saturday to submit a laptime for that week. You may submit multiple laptimes as you improve your time throughout the week, or just send one laptime right before the cutoff time at 11:59PM, but it must be posted on this thread in the form of a picture or video. Messages to me or submitted through the Playstation Network, Slack, or in PM on the forums do not count.
4) When hotlapping, you must be alone in the race session with the following settings:
Time: Noon
Weather: Clear
Race type: Non-Contact
Though, if you feel like hotlapping together, or submitting the times together, you are free to do so so long as the race was in Non-Contact.
5) If you dont own the car, you must purchase it. Laptimes in borrowed cars will not be accepted. As this is a beta event I will try to keep car choice cheap and accessible this time around.
6) As stated in the crew Racing Guidelines:
"The boundaries of a track are set by the creator using props and checkpoints. You are free to go anywhere on the track within the confines of those aspects, including off to the side of the road hunting for kerbs or taking advantage of bad (or sometimes intended) track design with corner cuts and shortcuts. As long as you're racing cleanly then go wherever you want."
As long as you are legitimately getting the laptime with the car or selection of cars, you are free to abuse the track to your advantage for quicker times, including curb boosting or bad track design.
SCOREBOARD:
1st: 15
2nd: 14
3rd:13
4th: 12
5th: 11
meow meow meow
15th: 1 point
erryone else: 0
There are weekly winners and the season winner, so don't feel discouraged if you enter the event late, you can still win the week.
Also, I must make this known: This is a one off, two week event that isnt really counting for anything. Not even your ELO will be affected by this event, but if you're going out of your way to cheat in this event, you should really reevaluate yourself. In an event formatted like this, I cant say "its not all about winning", but please dont be a scumbag.
If people feel the lap time you had was illegitimate, you must provide video evidence (so really, you should just record your laps to submit). If you fail to do so, your previously submitted laptimes will be removed and you cannot submit one again unless it is recorded.
