Does anybody use the Gear changing trick (when going into second gear release RT tap RB then accelerate again)? I'm very inconstant with it so I usually avoid it.

I do sometimes. I am not the best at it myself but it is does help with lap time so I try and do it as much as possible and get better at it.

Do you mean the Mid-Drive Speed Boost? It tends to work better with cars that have a lot of power relative to their traction levels, like the Banshee's, Carbonizzare and the Massacro for example. With higher traction cars, it tends to be more difficult to get it to work with them. Those cars I mentioned are RWD cars and it also work with AWD cars, but you need to use your brake as well as your hand brake.

Try using the brake as well with the Vagner when doing the MDSB, you won't be disappointed if you get it right.

how much of an advantage can it give in a race situation though? It makes a huge difference only in certain situations. Coming out of a tight hairpin it can easily give you 2-3 car length advantage

It works for me when going over surface changes, as soon as you feel the wheels are about to lift apply brakes strongly but shortly, it will create the burnout and therefore boost afterwards. However, as everyone has said already, it works on certain situations and some cars react better than others, and as with everything else, practices makes the difference
