I was out on the town with a couple friends and decided "Let's go see a movie" which led to watching 2 movies in the end (Inside out) and I watched Jurassic World.
I remember about month and a half ago Universal released a clip and Joss Whedon dubbed it "70s era sexist" and I had hopes that, maybe these characters in the movie would be less one-dimensional and that the female lead wouldn't be forced into some bogus love story at the end, or she'd actually make a difference whether she was there or not and granted she sort of did in the climax of the movie (she released the T-rex) but nevertheless she wasn't a strong female character like Spielberg had created in the original, and she was more of a joke of the movie creating more problems than solving.
Chris Pratt's role was an upside, still one-dimensional with no character developement but he was the voice of reason throughout the entire movie but to make the events of this movie happen no one ever listens to the dino expert. His relationship with the raptors is what made him the most enjoyable character, but all he really is, is the macho man who saves the day (not really that was blue, the t-rex and that water dino). Back to the unnecessary romance, this pisses me off the most, why do studios always have to create some kind of romance or sexual tension in movies, I don't need it, the movie doesn't need it, it added really nothing to plot.
The kids in the movie are god damn idiots, I understand the whole "you're my brother and I mistreat you so let's break the rules and go offroad" but seriously? Not when there's an emergency call, and the younger one is so passive about it, like he reasons once then just goes with it. Now to be fair this movie did do well bringing those brothers together in the end but the only real use to the plot these kids have is to get the 2 main characters of the movie to go to the jungle and meet the Idominous Rex.
I might be getting a little bit nitpicky here, but all the supporting characters are absolutley mental, using the raptors to fight wars? Fuck that honestly, and why is that guy the only person who's able to fly a helicopter on the god damn island? Why? Plot Convenience thats why. If that hadn't happened then the whole raptor thing would never happen.
This movie is so predictable too, the addition to the dino being part raptor was the easiest thing to see coming and how bout that deus ex machina finishing with the water dino fucking up the idominous rex? yeah, go figure and what a lousy finish. The movie suffered from the same problem as all the marvel movies did is that all the characters that died, you felt no real loss unless it was for the raptors then I'll let that one slide.
All in all, one thing this movie definitely got right, was it paying homage to the original movie, all the references and easter eggs made it very enjoyable to see, and I hope in the next one they don't do what they'd done here, or just not make a new one. Either way I'll be happy with one that adheres nicely to the Jurassic Park and maybe see some Goldblum in there at one point or just doesn't do the romance thing I mean it seemed to work in the first one. The best thing about this movie going forward is that it wasn't The Lost World or JP3 and I guess that'll give it a
6/10 rating.
