Introducing open class racing: Open class racing is a new type of racing what brings together car knowledge, car testing, setting qualifying times and of course the contact racing where we’re currently are familiar with. At the moment I’m open for changes because quite frankly, there is always something to improve. But let’s start with the idea: The idea Open class racings means that you are free to bring any car from the chosen class to the event. Open class racing will have a number of 15 minute races with each race having a qualification. All the races and qualification are on thesame track. There is just one thing.. The car what you will be bringing needs to be able to beat a given lap time. More about that later. If a car’s to slow it will not be raced in the event. But why would you bring a car what is to slow? Because the most interesting part open class racing is that all cars will be randomly swapped around. You will only drive your own car in the qualifications. The challenge is to get the most slow car as possible, what is still able to beat the given lap time in the qualification. Finetuning will be a key to victory. Because quite frankly: In the races. Your slow(er) car will be someone else’s problem. If your car is too fast, your opponent will have an advantage. And of course that’s not what you want to happen.
The Benchmark time For every open class racing event there will be a benchmark time. This is the time EVERY CAR needs to be able to get in the 5 lap qualification for each race. There will be a sixth cool down lap. You can see this qualification as performance measurement. Drivers will also earn points for beating the benchmark. Besides that cars what are unable to beat the laptime won’t be driven in one of the races what are no qualifications. Instead of getting a car from another participant (the cars what qualify will be swapped around) in the race you’ll get a pre decided car from the host. This car is a few (depending on track) seconds slower than the benchmark time so you would be better off just qualifying. There are multiple qualifications, so don't be afraid of being doomed with the pre decided car the entire event if you don't qualifiy immidately. Also, if you're unable to beat the benchmark time the second qualification you won't get the pre decided car the race after. You have proved that your car is not underperformed after all. However, you still need to beat the time to get the points.
Let’s say that the benchmark time of race on Cutting Coroners GP in supers is 1:05. A stock T20 would be able to beat it and so would a fully upgraded Adder. That means that every super car between the Adder and T20 would be raceable. It would be also mean that the Voltic (1:06.6*) would be suitable for everyone who did not succeed getting the benchmark time. Are you getting it? Wouldn’t it be cool seeing so many different super cars racing each other?
The format The format of this form of racing contains multiple round what contain a qualification and a 15 minutes races. Like mentioned before in these races you will get someone else's car. The 15 minute race will be on GTA mode so car swaps are possible. The qualification will be non-contact. So to clear it up a little, the scedule of an open class racing event is QUALIFICATION, RACE, 2th QUALIFICATION, 2th RACE etc. Since all races are on thesame track there's no need to host a playlist. Also it’s possible to adapt the format to every event. We can have 4 races with 4 qualifications, one qualification with one endurance race etc. You can have open class racing events lasting 2 hours, or 40 minutes. Whatever suits the participants the best. The format will be ofcourse mentioned in an open-class event thread.
Points Like I mentioned beating the benchmark time in the qualification will gain you points. 2 points to be exact. Not much, but it's important to beat the benchmark time anyway. However in all the races besides the qualification people will gain points too. These points will be based on the finish positions. The point system will be mentioned in each event thread.
The starting positions After the every qualification, there will be a cool down lap. Everyone will get together after the finish and when the hosts indicates a start everyone will race the last lap. Finishing position will determine your starting position the race after the qualification.
The host Like I mentioned the host brings a car what is handicapped as punishment for people who don’t qualify. This means the host is unable to race in the event himself since he can’t qualify his car. The host will have to announce the car swaps, and spectate the race. The car swaps will be determined by a random generator from the internet. Cheating I know in this form of racing cheating is possible. There will probarbly be some ways I can kinda monitor people cheating but I don’t really want to think about that yet. Let’s just keep it fair so we can rely on each other.
Event history 4/10/2015 Open Class Racing Sports (PS3)
Next up: Open class Racing Muscle (PS4)
So what do you think? I would love to see your opinion down below! This type of racing is far from perfect so please help me to improve this concept!
Cheers, Lucas

The idea is great. But there's a factor you didn't consider, which is the driver. For example, I could be driving a fully modded Turismo, but DR_PEPPERZ_ would still beat me in a stock Infernus. So let's say the bench is 1.05. And DR_PEPPERZ_ finetunes his car to 1.04.800. I'd probably be running 1.10's. (if I were to get his car after the re-distribution) Ofcourse this only applies if the skillgaps are too big. (not really a problem, but something to consider) Overall I really like the format You've thought it over very well. I just don't think I myself would contribute all that much, but sounds like a ton of fun.

I thought exactly the same thing while I was reading KoBo_043You have to take into account the differences in skills between the drivers. A "top driver" will probably be able to beat the benchmark time very easily, and therefore could use a car with much worse performance. But at this point this "bad" car could be assigned to a much less skilled driver, who needed a much better car to beat the benchmark time, while the "pro driver" might find in his hands a great car which can guarantee him a good placement. And therefore anyone can sign up to any event, issues like this may happen. Anyway this is an interesting idea, and of course it will be nice to see many different cars racing together. Looking forward to an event with this format katenhond2010And finally, think about that: Vans Open Class Racing.

However in normal races it's also hard to balance out skill gaps between drivers. The only issue is that the car of a slow driver under a fast driver's butt will be OP. This is also why this format has multiple races instead of one. To balance it out a little. You don't want that fast guy to drive the OP car for the entire event ofcourse. But at the end, you're completely right. Skill gaps are a huge issue.

Also I've updated the OP a littlebit, I decided that every race should have a qualification. So people who won't qualify can prove theirself the qualification after what will prevent them to be stuck with the pre determined car.

For anyone who's interested, the very first open class racing event is a thing! Let's see how it'll go. Will use the event to improve the entire concept of open class racing. LINK
