Just a thread to see how many people in the crew race in real life because I have my own kart and race a weekend each month and just wondering who else does?

I used to drive professional kart racing from 2005 to 2010, but now stopped since I work and it gets more and more expensive. I don't want to think how many hundred thousands of euros my family spend in this sport. It's ridiculous when I think back. I have still much racing equipment and I drove now more on a "hobby" basis. So no more international racing, but some club racing and training at my local kart track in Kerpen (the one which Michael Schumacher owns). Here're some pics of some seasons. Fun fact: Pilot with the number #310 is Pascal Wehrlein, 2015 DTM Champion. I raced with him many seasons in the same team and we were good friends. Also at least 5-6 drivers in the bottom picture now driving Formula or Stock cars. Both pictures are from 2008, the above is from DKM (Deutsche Kart Meisterschaft) and the below is from ADAC Kart Masters.

Since they banned the front brakes on Rotax Senior in Germany, Juniors are faster on some tracks due to low weight. Front brakes were the shit

Define 'race in real life.' I'm on a race team but I don't drive.

Front brakes were the shit we don't have front brakes on seniors either but there are on the gearbox karts and they need them because they're so quick There are 2 types of front brakes. Gearbox karts have one break pedal which operate 2 front brakes and 1 rear brake together. You can adjust how much brakeforce you want to the front and to the back. And there are a front brake version for non gearbox karts where you operate the front brakes seperate from the back ones with a leaver on the wheel (like the clutch pedal on a KZ2). So with the foot you brake normal only the back, and with the hand you can brake the front.

I race to my train if that counts everyday I have 2 minutes to run from one end of London Victoria Station to the other so I don't miss a fast train (would have to wait another 20 mins for a direct fast train) and make it most of the time Kappa In all seriousness I karted once, loved it, would love to do it more but time and money makes it hard.

When I race and it's only at club level people are paying a fortune to be in the big teams each with their own mechanic just focussing on them. Then there's people like me who turn up with my dad and someone we've known for a while now in the back of the trailer and you can still compete with them. It's all about time in the seat

Raced 15 years of Motocross, county champion twice, represented county at national level and competed within the top 10 of the British championship in my youth. String of injuries and work commitments has me on a break currently. Never fully quit though, nothing beats the adrenaline rush of 40 riders going for the first corner.
