I gather most of you here in NODO are fairly computer savvy, so i'm asking for some insight as to how to deal with creepy players. I had the misfortune of running into one while racing in a stunt race last night in a random lobby with my friends. Everything started innocently enough until I noticed a text directed towards myself in which a racer called me a 'puss...'. I have my mic set to friends and crew and I have no trouble ignoring rude texts, so I ignored him. Then everything went creepy as a voice started speaking these horridly sexual things to me. Telling me how I liked it, what I wanted, the whole ball of wax. I was so taken aback, I felt like a deer in the headlights. My first reaction was to mute the player individually. I wasn't given that option when I went into players in the 'ESC' menu. And I could see the player's car making contact with my vehicle while I'm trying to do this. I had to leave the lobby and what quite impressed I was able to do so in my panicked state. lol I can't remember the player's name the audio was coming from because I was too freaked out. I felt truly violated by this event. I never imagined anything like this could happen. Other than reporting this player if it should happen again, is there anything else I can do-assuming I don't panic again?

Ugh, that's a repelling story. I am really sorry for you, that you had to experience it.
I am not sure there is much more to do than report(!), ignore and feel superior (however hard that might be). I really wish I could offer more advice. But I especially wanted to answer in this thread, because I felt touched by your story and wanted to express my support. I hope you won't have to have such an experience again.

Excuse me but are you new to the internet? These kinds of things happen on a daily basis. Racism, sexism, xenophobia and all kinds of shitty stuff. Just ignore it, mute the violators and if that's not possible there is always the option to find a new lobby which is fortunately an easy thing to do and it ruins the game for you minimally.

This right here. Sounds harsh, but such is life. The internet is full of trolls and assholes that try to get a reaction out of you. The only way to deal with them is to block, report and ignore. If you respond, they win. If you let them get to you, they win. If said troll is part of NoDo, contact a commissioner and we'll be able to use some of our anti-troll spay and / or banhammers. If not, ignore and move on...

Unfortunately such things happen a lot. I have in-game voice chat turned off just to avoid these situations. It is better to use teamspeak so that we know who we're talking to, and you can create separate channels for friends, so you don't have to listen to random people anymore. While NoDo is a very good crew in general, there can be such people involved, as the community is fairly big and the crew is open to anyone. NoDo's teamspeak server is a very good place to start.

You can also start a party on the ps4. You don't want anyone in, set it private. Its up to you. When you set a party, it cuts off chat in gta. I'm glad for that.
You can only mute people in free roam. Other lobbies like racing, you unfortunately have to deal with them. Setting up a party cuts the headache.

I appreciate all the advice everyone offered me and I thank you all. As I said before, I had never encountered anything like that ever and had never dreamed anyone would do that. If you want to condemn me for that, that's your choice. I did not respond to the offender except stop to try and mute them and when that did not work, I immediately left the lobby. Now that I know there's pretty much nothing I can do if this should happen again, I'll just leave like I did this time. Thanks again to those of you who offered help.

Sorry to hear that as well. I recently raced a couple of times with you I think and if something like that happens to you again, I'd definitely be willing to vote kick him from the race. You might have to inform people of what's going on though and you might not want to so I understand if you just leave. Unfortunately the host can't just kick someone from a playlist once it has started.

Sorry to hear about this. GTA is a huge community, so there are bigger chances to meet assholes. Personaly I turned off voice chat, but if you set it to crew+friends only, it should solve your problem, right? I just wish we could do the same thing on text chat as well.

Just disable voice chat. Very early on I grew weary of 12 year old's informing me of what they were going to do, or were in the process of doing, to my mother (who is in her 70's). I still get similar abuse through the text chat from time to time but it's more easily ignored. Your choice but if you leave voice chat enabled you will get abuse in your lugholes in random lobbies. Especially if you win a lot

Basically what everyone here said, you can just mute everyone, or set your VOIP to Friends + Crew only. Really, the only way to guarantee you'll have a clean experience is to play exclusively with people you know, which is an option. Just reiterating what martindurin and equationunequal said though, GTA is a high profile game (even in 2016) and ironically appeals to edgy children more than its ostensibly intended audience, so y'know... welcome to internet.
