That sounds interesting. Not sure how often I'd join, but I do cruise around free roam occasionally. Just remembered to I need to customize my 6X6. Some time I need to take my Rancher XL for a run, that was my favorite truck by far back in San Andreas, and I always find myself still owning one even in GTA5. A friend of mine uses his Rancher quite a lot for offroad use too. Although nowadays he uses a Duneloader after he realized that its snorkel now works in next gen 😂 Im available on GTA5 a lot of the time. Ill send you a friend request on PSN, just hit me up when you got the time. Duneloader would be good if it wasn't a 2WD weak gas powered 6 cylinder. Even if it still had it's diesel engine from PS3 it'd be a little better. Anyway yea send a friend. We'll cruise around eventually.

Just browsed through the offroading archives, apparently you agree that the Rumpo Custom actually does well? I'll give it a try soon enough

My memory is a big hazy, haven't used it in a while now. But I think as long as you avoid rolling it should do well. I used to have a testing series with a offroad trail I took vehicles on, it was bumpy, had deep water, and a steep bank and was located in the Zanchodu swamp area. I didn't race around, I tried to go really slow, almost pretending you was really off roading so to say. But yea I believe the Rumple Custom did well if I remember correctly. Unfortunately I think I no longer have that track. So whatever vehicles I had managed to cover, that was it.
But yea the Rumple should have decent traction and ground clearance. the only thing my track never really had was a rocky sections. So I don't know how it'd do on a tilt.
Maybe I should make a new and improved obstetrical course one day since the creator has all kinds of rocks and tree limbs and such now.
Maybe reboot the series.

Yeah I imagine that tilt on the east ridge of Chiliad will be a problem, gotta go real slow in the van. Perhaps lowering suspension can alleviate? I mean I know it sounds stupid to lower suspension on an offroader, but the height reduction isnt even significant. My MW Mesa has lowered susp, and it seems to make it a lil less tipsy, and it doesnt seem like much ground clearance was sacrificed.

I used to have it lowered for racing and it was still tippy. But hey, worth a try.

I tested the Rumpo. It IS indeed more capable than the Mesa, however it is less fun to use IMO. Also its tyres are smaller, and I'd rather see a Jeep offroading than a craigslist creeper van doing offroading. The damage model on the Rumple is obnoxious too compared to the Mesa. (damage model on Mesa has a lot less scratches present, especially when grazing against high boulders. Dent deformation on the Mesa is also a lot less obvious.*) *yes I do have some form of OCD. Therefore the Rumpo just isn't the kind of offroader that fits my tastes.

I have no idea about how the physics work but from my experience is like the hydrolock triggers on a certain quantity of water intake. That can happen very fast, nearly instantly when the admission hits those part of the river with strong currents, or slow, doing a long but continuous shallow water drive. To reduce the chances, try to regularly step in a dry zone to empty the water "accumulated". Some offloading friends say that speed affects also creating a small water splash but I'm not sure about that.

As for the speed, I find it much better to do deep water crossings as fast as possible rather than slowly. Now of course, if the water is too deep, it will instantly hydrolock the engine either way.

I fully agree with the speed of the car.
The best example I can think for the water "load" is a location in the river cross near zancudo. With most cars you simply can't cross (brawler aside) unless you hit a rock underwater in the middle of the river that makes you bounce, and the front part of the car emerges out of water for an instant before going in back again. That is enough to be able to cross it.

I've created a couple of races through the massive waves at the North of the map, and from my experience you can't even barely touch the water before dying, the other time you can spend a couple of seconds submerged before the engine giving in.

That is enough to be able to cross it. Sandking can crawl across, and Insurgent goes though water so fast they's cross before drowning. I've flooded Brawler in areas I've taken those two.

Insurgent and SK are the usual cars for water crossing. The brawler can do incredible things but needs specific practice. The trophy truck or desert raid can be also very good if you go fast enough.
The example of the rock I referred to is with dubsta or mesa, making able to cross something that those cars normally can't. There is something twisted in the mind of offroaders that once you have made it with a SK, you want to try with a Mesa and if you manage it then you want to try it with the granger, etc...
