Thanks for the advice and reassurances guys Its a good idea about giving them their spot back if you really wipe them out. In short races this is probably not so easy but on longer races that sounds like a really genuine thing to do.

Only issue I would have with this is if they run up my arse whilst lapping me.

I get the sentiment OP has. I probably will bash some people off accidently. Happens to me a lot now when racing randoms. I try not to hit them on purpose, but sometimes it happens in tight corners when overcorrecting trying not to hit a wall/lamppost/tree w.e.
My reaction is mostly 'oops' since randoms don't give a F and don't wait themselves.
Guess the "let them pass at the start and try to keep up" is the best tip to get used to racing with serious racers.

I am more aggressive with randoms than with crew, occasionally I will let a racer I know is a lot better than me pass on purpose. Reason being, I like to stick as close as possable and learn their lines but also, I am aware that I may not take the optimal lines, or I may break at an unexpected place and cause a wreck. Not a big issue but I do see your point about feeling a little extra pressure when crew racing.
Trying to pass randoms in tight corners or small gaps with out touching them, even when they want to hit you, is really good practice. That's pretty much the only reason I still occasionally race randoms.

Too bad (most/a lot of) randoms won't give you the soace on tight overtakes as they almost always will try to PIT you.

If you hit a driver or force him off the track and gain a position then you must give it back. Try not to slam on the brakes in the middle of the road just find an appropriate place to pull over.

After several races with NoDo crew members, I must say, the pressure does lift a bit. There will always be those hairy moments but we are all only human and collisions will happen. I guess with the crew potentially tripling, there will be more opportunities than ever to race with clean, quick racers.

I also feel that pressure on me when i'm racing with NoDo and i can't take the good lines. So now, at the start i let everybody pass and try to catch up those who are slower than me. I feel more confortable fighting with them.

I feel more confortable fighting with them. Not a bad strategy while you are new. Just make sure it doesn't affect your defending if you are always playing catch up. My strategy both IRL and GTA was to run up front as long as I could, with people i realistically had no chance of beating, and eventually hang for a race distance.

When I first started racing contact after many months of non-contact on 360, I found it hard to adapt to different lines. So at first I tried to stay out the way as much as possible, but then that didn't really help me, as I wasn't learning how to act when someone else was around me. It came to PS4 and I started just trying to race normally. In due time I got progressively better on how to act in a contact situation. I would say 90% of the time I would feel comfortable to race side-by-side with others, except for on some areas where they may be too tight, or I'm not confident on that road. My advice, keep racing with others. If you hit someone always wait, that's my view. For a while you may be involved in quite a few accidents, but it will slowly decrease. Even now, every racer gets into accidents, it just happens, but less and less will happen if you keep racing with others, you learn how to adapt lines to stay with them, defend, attack and keep it controlled. It just takes a bit of time

I never let anyone just pass becouse they are faster, i am also a rookie but when someone like twilicane tries to pass me i try to defend as good as possible (i usually get far but then crash cuz i crash a lot trying to push it harder)
