1. Lag - Maybe I should not have hosted, but instead let someone with a superior internet connection do so. I experienced a huge lag spike at the start of Davis Raceway and judging by the video others did as well. There were people from at least 3 different continents in the race and I don't know if there is a way around lag issues when information has to be passed around the globe in real time like that. I should have probably limited the field to 10 racers.
2. Starting Procedure - I thought that the Cheetah would make for less crashes and I still think it's a very stable car in general, however I overlooked the fact that most people are just not that use to driving it competitively because they spend so much time in the Zentorno, Turismo, and Osiris. Even with that being said a rolling start or a qualifier would clean things up quite a bit depending on the track. The default grid was very unfair.
3. Driver Etiquette - In some cases I understand what happened and how it may appear to others. Obviously there is some of the traditional "It didn't happen on my screen" stuff going on for most everyone, but in the specific case of me overtaking on the Shark GP hairpin (about 7:25 in the vid) I remember thinking something like "There is a wreck in font of me, let me just try to slide by on the inside." Looking at the video I do hit you, but as I'm going through I don't stop because I don't know who caused the accident, all I know is that many cars are blocking the road and I had nothing to do with it, why should I stop? That's my thought process at the time and I can see others viewing situations similarly for themselves, but I am not sure if it's the best way to do things and we can discuss that. It gets complicated because people want to win and waiting means that's less likely and waiting for accidents you didn't cause or having to go around them in frustrating especially amidst the confusion of people seemingly not waiting for you. Add into the confusion some people genuinely not understanding and/or abusing the rules and things deteriorate quickly.
People understanding the rules is the first step in addressing the problem. I can see from this video that some people did not read and comprehend the post I made about the event outlining the rules. The second part is understanding the lag and how it shows and doesn't show on everyone's screens. If you are driving next to someone and they all of a sudden crash from nothing, it's very likely that on their screen you bumped them... people need to understand and look for this and many don't. Once that knowledge is understood it becomes a matter of breaking properly with other cars around you and other driving skills, which for many people will take some getting use to.
I would like to encourage people to give constructive criticism, ask questions, apologize, voice concerns on whatever the case may be so we can all get better and have fun events. We are a group of people that have different skill levels and experience, but we do all enjoy clean racing and the pool of PS3 players is shrinking all the time, so let's make the best of what we got by helping and challenging each other in a productive way.
So I would like to formally apologize for my crashes, I am sorry and my intention was not to ruin any races. I would also like to apologize for the crashes that were caused by people not using Cheetahs, it was my responsibility to kick out people who failed to choose the right car and then failed to pull off and stay out of everyone else's way. I definitely failed everyone in that regard.
Imo you didn't really do anything wrong in terms of hosting this event. With a playlist like this, you dont really wanna set up a grid and stuff like that, like you said before, you want everything to take ages before every race. It was definitely unfair though (that has been shown by me winning xD)
Maybe limiting the amount of players to 10 or something like that could've been better. In an endurance race it would be fine to have more because everyone gets more spread out, but on 'short' races like this everyone is quite close to each other all the time and makes clean racing very difficult.
In terms of lag, I don't think anyone can do anything about that (apart from maybe having less players).
I think the choice of car was fine. The cheetah isn't very hard to drive. I did get quite annoyed, especially in the first race, when I was getting held up by a zentorno in front of me. I was faster in my cheetah, but it was still hard to overtake because the zentorno is just faster. I don't think its your fault that people, who failed to choose the right car, kept racing. It should be common sense that if you dont have a cheetah, you pull off to the side and you stay in last place, it's that simple.
For future events, I would recommend having endurance races, and not short races in a playlist.
