SATCC Season 4 Finale - Round 15: Del Perro
What a day this was! I am still struggeling to believe that all these things have come together. Myself going into the last weekend with a 9 point lead to lewjen (smithyonetwelve) and still 1 whitecard to play, my chance to take the title home were small. I had to win Del Perro with Smithy not scoring better than 8th position because it was pretty obvious that On the Yarn was a track that would be Verlierer territory. All this while starting from 12th with Smithy starting from 1st position.
Dnl_Jackson and myself thought about how to approach this difficult task. He adviced me to not use my whitecard on the previous weekend and just go all-in on Del Perro. So our gameplan was to somehow bring myself into the lead and put pressure on Smithy. Still a very unlikely outcome.
Then the race started and instantly endersai passed Smithy. This was the first key part for the victory. I myself had a decent getaway and managed to pass SabertoothWolF in the first turn. So one Aussie was out of the way. Then Smithy and Endersai had a contact at the first hairpin. Ender kept the lead till the 2nd lap where at the first hairpin a contact between the two cost Smithy several positions. With a damaged car he ended up infront of redlaserbm and myself. Almost being taken out by his teammate Just Hero in the last turn we went onto the main straight. BigGamerer closed the gap to Smithy on the main straight and breaked late, to late! He pushed Smithy into the wall and allowed me to get into 4th position to follow Grumples_Plox (grimreaper977) , Oh_Darn and Dnl_Jackson .
After passing Grim I managed to close the gap to the two guys battling it out in the front. OhDarn taking a early first pitstop brought me into second position behind my teammate who then also took a pitstop. Leading the pack with Darn and Jackson close behind me I managed to create a gap that was big enough to take my pitstop and still come out in first (luckily Darn messed up his pit-entrance, otherwise it would have been a tough task to pass him).
In the meanwhile Smithy made a mistake by hitting a wooden pole close to the 3rd hairpin costing him even more time. With a gap of around 5s I went into the last laps knowing that I have to maintain this to come out infront of Darn in the last lap. Going into the last lap I felt the pressure to not mess up and luckily managed to bring it home. Still I didn´t know in which position Smithy currently was. I only knew that he had to get 8th so I can win the title.
Hearing Grim in the voicechat saying Smithys name and then looking at the timetable with Grim and Smithy in 7th and 8th my prayers went to Grim to not let Smithy pass in the last lap. And he didn´t disappoint me. With a safe gap of 0.2 second Grim got 7th. Unbelievable!
Steamchat exploded with messages of my teammate and other drivers like fab. ICEMAN . Did we make it? Did we calculate the right points? Could Smithy really have finished in 8th?
YEEEESSSS! We did it! Incredible!
Thank you Dnl_Jackson for this amazing season. You were the backbone of this success. Our teamwork was outstanding and I enjoyed every practice session we did. Also big thanks to fab. ICEMAN for completing our german trio-infernale xD It was a great time and reminded me of the glorious times in season 1
Thank you endersai for hosting your 4th season of SATCC. An event that has started to be something new and different has come such a long way. Despite some discrepancies in opinions this is one of THE events of NoDo PC. Everybody talks about it and I get lots of positive comments regarding it. People like to watch it and envy us for having such a great community.
Congratulations to lewjen (smithyonetwelve) for this outstanding season. It has been a pleasure racing against you. You have my respect on and off the track. Also great drive from Oh_Darn . To clinch this 3rd place in the last weekend is an achievment that should not be underestimated.
And last but not least thank you to everybody who participated. Without backmarkers, drivers in the midfield or reserve drivers this event would not be what it is. You are the true heroes of this show. I saw some great improvement in driving over the season. The atmosphere was very enjoyable and I was always looking forward to race the next 2 tracks.
Here is the final race that made it all possible:
TL;DR: We made Pfister great again!!!
