If you're a careful driver, nothing should be a challenge to get around with a relatively good pace and consistency.
Personally, I can't really be bothered, I was in a practise race with a couple of guys on the elegy event track, loads of tight corners, and I still managed to keep up with the last two, in my massacro and pretty rusty as I haven't played the game since whenever, didn't crash once, caught a few powerslides but nothing major. We were five in total.

On topic though, I think you should practise the car, and maybe a little the track, I just don't think learning the car on the track would be a good idea.

Get her a copy of GTA so that she can be a "computer friend" as well?

On the topic of practicing I like doing at least a bit of practice for each event so that I at least find some of things that I'm doing wrong before the race rather than with 5 laps of the race left.
