Notice
This event is being hosted around the same time as a couple of other championship events. Potential participants at risk of burnout from the game are advised to take any number of the following actions:
-Take a break of a couple weeks duration away from the crew before these events start up in late April/early May
-Commit full-time to one championship at a maximum
-Do not play the game except when preparing for an event or driving in one
Sanctioning body Broughcar is proud to present season 2 of NODO's premier oval racing series, sponsored by...
Overview
The Broughcar series is NODO's greatest spectacle of thrilling, high-speed, side-by-side, bumper-to-bumper action, giving rise to many stars over its history, from Gamerer's dominant win in the Xero Gas 100 to end a 4-month winless drought, to Esperante's first and only NODO win in the Indy Special, to grimreaper977's historic run of 7 straight podiums in Season 1 of the championship, including a win, to definitively claim for himself the Logger Cup. Join NODO's best oval racers in an 8-race chase for the Xero Cup, a trophy that can only be hoisted by the driver who can prove his worth on zero-shaped tracks.

Rules and Regulations
Race control:
The rules and regulations put forth in the following paragraphs shall be enforced by race control and the event hosts.
Race control consists of the non-driver participants. BIGGamerer is the event host.
Pre-lobby:
Participants should be on Teamspeak and in-game 15 minutes before the start of qualifying. The pre-lobby meetup for each race will be held at a location near that track's start/finish line.
Qualifying/Starting Grid:
The starting grid for each race will be determined by lap-times in a 2 lap non-contact race on the track on the day of the race. Qualifying will start at exactly 6PM UTC - if you miss qualifying you can still race, but will start at the back.
Start Procedure:
Ovals: Per standard NASCAR procedure, the start of each race will be a double-file rolling start led by a safety car. Participants who qualify in odd-numbered positions (3rd, 5th, 7th, ...) start on the inside line, and participants who qualify in even-numbered positions start on the outside line (4th, 6th, 8th, ...), with the exception of the pole-sitter, who may choose whether to start on the outside line or the inside line--where the pole-sitter chooses to start on the inside/outside line, the second place qualifier shall start on the outside/inside line. Following a declaration by race control the safety car will pull off the track. The race begins when participants cross the start/finish line, at which point they may overtake.
Road courses: The start of each race will be an SAGTC-style standing start. Participants are to line up on the appropriate start box and wait for the sticky bombs to go off, at which point they may begin racing.
Racing rules:
This event uses FIA racing rules with the following additional guidelines/clarifications:
-Per standard NODO racing rules, participants must wait for other participants they take out/negatively affect in a significant manner.
-A significant portion of an attacking car is alongside a defending car if any part of the front bumper of the attacking car is alongside the rear wheel of the defending car.
-Participants should not engage in aggressive driving with competitors who are multiple laps ahead of them.
-Any significant unusual maneuver/action done to a vehicle to gain an advantage on the competition, such as wall-boosting, wiggle-boosting, swerving, or damaging the suspension to make the car handle better, is disallowed*.
*Curb-boosting is permitted, but curb-surfing (the act of obtaining more than one curb boost from a single curb on a straight in one lap) is not. Damaging the car so that wrenches may be used in the pits is permitted, but damaging the car to make it handle better on the track is not.
FPS Rule:
Participants must cap their FPS at 60. Participants suspected of breaking this rule may be asked to reproduce video or photo evidence of their compliance with the rule.
Vehicle Setup Restrictions:
No offroad tires or spoilers are permitted.
Pitting:
Participants must take 3 mandatory pit stops during each race:
-Ovals only: Participants who pit under normal racing conditions before halfway must use the "slow lane"
-Ovals only: Participants who pit under normal racing conditions after halfway may use the "fast lane"
-Road courses only: Participants may not pit on the final lap.
-Participants who pit under safety car conditions must wait for the whole field to go by before re-entering the track***
The following additional restrictions apply to pitting*:
-Ovals only: Participants may only pit once per 10 laps.
-Road courses only: Participants may only pit once per 5 laps.
Pit stops taken while the pits are closed do not count as mandatory pits. The pits open on the second lap of each race^. The pits close when the safety car is deployed, and will be opened with an auditory or text-chat notice during the safety car.
The race is at its halfway point when the leader reaches a designated lap, usually at which point approximately 50% of the race distance will have been completed. Clarification will be provided prior to each race what constitutes the "slow lane" and the "fast lane" in the pits.
Participants may not overtake in the pits unless the person in front suffers a serious issue--the driver in front of you stopping at the end of pit road to let the field go by while under safety car is not a valid reason for overtaking.
Participants may not take a mandatory pit while obligated to wait for other drivers.
Participants that use the wave-around may not pit until after the ensuing restart (See Wave-around rule).
Where a participant takes a pit while the pit lane is closed, takes a pit in violation of the pit-rush** rules, or takes a pit while obligated to wait for another driver, those pits will not count towards the mandatory pit requirement.
In the absence of a pit watcher, participants must call out their mandatory pits using either voice chat or text chat.
*This means on an oval, a participant who pits on lap 12 may not pit again until (they reach) lap 22. On a road course, a participant who pits on lap 13 may not pit again until lap 18.
^The first lap of each race is used as a pace lap. For full avoidance of doubt, the pits open when the leader reaches lap 3--that is, their lap counter reads "Lap 3/xx."
**For clarity, pit-rushing is the act of taking pits in rapid succession, and the pit-rush rules are the rules in place concerning how frequently participants may pit during the race.
***For full avoidance of doubt, a participant is considered to be pitting under safety car conditions if (after a safety car deployment) they pit before crossing the start/finish line for the restart.
Safety car:
The safety car may be deployed for the following reasons:
-Any 3 car incident which poses an immediate danger to at least 1 other participant
-Any 4+ car incident
-Any incident where an unoccupied car/prop/object/etc is in a dangerous location/is creating an unsafe racing environment/interferes with the race in a significant manner
-Ovals only: Any incident where a participant must reset their car
Only race control can deploy the safety car, and they may only do so by typing "sc" in the chat*. Following the deployment of the safety car, participants should slow down and line up single file behind the leader. No overtaking is allowed (minus cars that are crashed or otherwise off pace for an extended time). Please allow for the safety car, if available, to pick up the leader of the race. Remember that the pits are closed until race control re-opens them.
The race may end under safety car if the safety car is active or called very late in the race. Race control will do its best to ensure the race ends under normal racing conditions--this means a restart could happen even if there is less than a lap to go in the race.
In the absence of a safety car driver, a virtual safety car will be used.
*During road courses and certain other races, additional participants will be permitted to deploy the safety car.
Restarts:
Race control will give the “1 to go” signal during a safety car period to inform participants that a restart will happen the next time they cross the start/finish line. The following procedure applies when "1 to go" is announced:
-Ovals only: Participants lined up in front of the leader of the race during the safety car may drive up to the back of the line before the restart--this is the wave-around rule^. Participants that use the wave-around may NOT pit until after they cross the line for the ensuing restart. If blue flags have been made active lead lap cars will be moved to the front of the line before the restart^^.
-Road Courses only: Lapped participants may unlap themselves. Lapped participants may actively race each other as soon as they move past the leader.
-At a designated point on the track, the safety car will pull off, giving control of the pace of the field to the leader, and participants may overtake once they cross the start/finish line*. The leader is not allowed to pass the safety car before the restart.
Race control may wave off the restart until the next lap if the field is not properly lined up.
*Participants may freely overtake participants that crash or suffer a similar problem before the line. Race control has the final say on the legality of any overtake before the line. Participants who (illegally) overtake before the line will not be penalized if they relinquish the advantage gained within a reasonable amount of time.
^Participants who reset their car during safety car must drop to the back of the line upon hearing the 1 to go signal. Exceptions will be made for participants who must respawn in order to get back on the track.
^^Cars that take the wave-around and end up back on the lead lap restart at the end of the line, even after blue flags have been made active. Lapped participants in front of the leader may use the wave-around.
Blue flag:
Ovals: Participants may issue the blue flag to other participants they are lapping after the leader reaches a designated lap, usually after completion of 85%-90% of the race distance. There will be notifications before and during the race at which lap participants may begin issuing blue flags. Participants issued the blue flag must yield to the participants lapping them.
Road courses: Participants may issue the blue flag to other participants they are lapping at any point during the race. Participants issued the blue flag must yield to the participants lapping them.
Red flag:
Red flags may be issued by race control late in the race to ensure a possibility that the race finishes under normal racing conditions, or after numerous safety car incidents/a major safety car incident/many laps run under safety car to prevent too much of the race from being run under safety car conditions. Under a red flag, the leader must stop where they are. No overtaking is permitted.
Penalties/Disqualifications:
Penalties or warnings may be assessed for minor violations of the rules, or actions detrimental to the event, either during a race or after its conclusion--usually after its conclusion. Participants who collect multiple warnings may be issued a penalty for those warnings. Participants may be disqualified or banned for serious infractions. Penalties/warnings are assessed on a case-by-case basis. Repeat offenders may be subject to harsher than usual penalties for any further infractions committed.
The Broughcar committee is responsible for issuing penalties for infractions which occur during the race. While there is no strict system in place which dictates what penalty a participant may receive for a given infraction, the committee is advised to consult the Broughcar penalty guideline document when assessing disciplinary action to drivers in the event.
Participants who are disqualified will be excluded from classification in the final results.
The event host reserves the right to blacklist participants or refer them to a commissioner for additional disciplinary action as deemed appropriate.
Post-Race Investigations:
Participants may request an investigation on any on-track incident shortly after the conclusion of a race by sending a PM to the event host with a time-stamped video of the incident. Any referral sent within 24 hours of the start of the race it concerns shall be fully examined. Referrals received after this time may be reviewed at the discretion of the event host. Investigations are handled by the Broughcar committee. A list of members in the committee is given below:

Appeals
Any participant who records and uploads footage of the entirety of a race and is assessed a penalty after that race may appeal that penalty, subject to the following restrictions:
-The footage must be made available in a timely manner--the committee should have ample time to examine it before post-race investigations are released.
-The committee reserves the right to deny appeal requests on any penalty for any valid reason.
Participation
Signing Up:
Participants must be members of NODO and meet event eligibility requirements, and should have (the equivalent of) some experience in the daily playlist, welcome playlist, or a previous event in order to sign up. Exceptions to this criteria may be granted on a case-by-case basis. The event host reserves the right to deny entry to any competitor who he feels is unfit to race in this event.
Participants need not commit to the whole season when signing up; they are welcome to sign-up for only certain races if they cannot make them all/do not wish to attend them all. (In particular, participants who do not enjoy oval racing are welcome to join us for the road course races.)
Preference for sign-ups in race 1 will be given based on drivers' standings in season 1. Preference for sign-ups in subsequent races will be given based on drivers' standings in this season*.
Participants must form teams of 2-3 drivers and must associate with a sponsor from an in-game company with an appropriate choice of primary, secondary, and wheel colors. Teams should take care not to choose similar paint schemes. Team details will be approved at the discretion of the event host. The field for each race is limited to 27 drivers. Participants may sign up without having any team details arranged but will be assigned teams before the start of each race should they fail to arrange such details themselves. The event host reserves the right to assign participants to empty spots on teams as deemed necessary without the consent of participants on the teams.
*If sign-ups for a race are not full after 48 hours before the race start, preference for the remaining seats will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Reserves:
Participants may sign up as reserves for a particular race if they are unsure they can make/want to run that race. Non-reserve participants have priority over reserves. No shows in past events, last-minute joins, and repeat offenders of the rules will be signed up as reserves regardless of their stated intent to commit to the event at the discretion of the event host. Reserves will be assigned teams just like all other participants should they fail to arrange any details themselves.
Borrowing Cars:
Participants may borrow cars if necessary for a given race.Participants are advised to buy the cars if they can due to restrictions on car borrowing. Current issues with the game prevent cars from effectively being shared. Participants must own the cars to race. No trainers will be permitted during this event.
Race Control
NODO members who wish to be a part of the event but not as a driver may sign up for one of the below positions in race control. Race control has the authority deploy the safety car and may issue call-outs or request post-race investigations as deemed necessary.
Safety Car Driver
The safety car driver is responsible for driving the safety car when deployed. If the safety car driver is not driving the safety car they should act as a race official (see race official section).
Pit Watcher
The pit watcher is responsible for keeping track of the pit stops taken by participants and enforcing pit road rules (Making sure people take their pits, exit in the correct manner during safety car, etc.). The pit watcher should record the race from their POV if possible.
Race official
The race official is an additional non-driver participant who helps enforce the rules. They watch the track and ensure people are abiding by the rules, and issue call-outs if they do not abide by them.
Points
Points will be awarded for finishing positions to each driver after each race to determine a drivers' champion and team champion. Only the two highest-placing drivers from each team after each race will contribute to their team’s point count:
1st: 100
2nd: 90
3rd: 81
4th: 73
5th: 66
6th: 59
7th: 53
8th: 47
9th: 42
10th: 37
11th: 33
12th: 29
13th: 25
14th: 22
15th: 19
16th: 16
17th: 14
18th: 12
19th: 10
20th: 8
21st: 7
22nd: 6
23rd: 5
24th: 4
25th: 3
26th: 2
27th: 1
Bonus points will be awarded for the following actions:
+2 bonus points will be given to the participant who qualifies on pole^
+2 bonus points will be given to the participant who leads at halfway*
+1 bonus point will be given to the participant who achieves the fastest lap in the race^^
Only a participant's best 7 races are considered for the driver's championship**.
Participants who disconnect will receive points dependent on the amount of race distance they’ve completed. (This means participants that disconnect late will receive more points than participants who disconnect early.)
*Please provide photo/video evidence if requested.
**In particular, if a participant scores, 102, 90, 103, 81, 10, 8, 81, and 91 points in each of the 8 races, the 8-point race is dropped from consideration.
^Participants serving grid penalties may still achieve this bonus if they get the fastest lap time.
^^Participants who DNF are not eligible for this bonus. A lap-time may be disallowed from consideration if it is achieved through illegitimate means.
Ties are broken by a countback on wins, then (if necessary) 2nd place finishes, 3rd place finishes, 4th place finishes, and so on. If this does not break the tie, the participant who had the advantage right before the tie will be awarded the tie-breaker.

Participants may borrow cars if necessary for a given race.
