Long story short, there is a little quest within the game. Spoilers ahead if you don't want to know. (No pics either, but meh) {Spoiler} You'll get an email from some Eyefind guy, with a picture of an island and promise of treasure. Go to this island. The island is primarily grassy and rocky, but there is a small point that is sandy with some rocks on it on the south side. The northern side of these rocks, there should be a white piece of paper. It reads along the lines of a person has stolen your treasure and destroyed the evidence. (You need to go right next to it and follow the game prompts to continue) This will unlock three new locations: a stream, a beach in Sandy Shores, and a road in Grapeseed. The Stream one is a stream gorged into a rock face on both sides. With some careful looking, you'll find a cave with a dead person in it on the northern side. Inspect the person. The Beach is a small rusty house frame with a chair inside. Inspect the tools next to it. The Road is a tree with a box next to it. Look for this tree and inspect the box. The tree is on the western side of the road. Once all three have been completed, you'll unlock a treasure chest. Go to the treasure chest in Paleto Bay, and open it. You'll receive a Double Action Revolver. Turns out these locations are completely random The game will prompt you to get 50 headshot kills with this weapon. I found this easy by using a wall in Paleto Bay on the east side of Route 1 near Ammunation and getting a wanted level (use snacks). Once this is completed, you'll receive $250k GTA$ and, once you log into Red Dead Redemption 2 with your Social Club account, the revolver in RDR2.

BTW this could only happen to a few people, or to all. It depends. It's random on the timings.

I'm not going to look at the locations beforehand, I'll try it first. Gotta say I find the idea of a headshot-challenge in free roam annoying. R* has been encouraging a certain kind of playstyle way too much and such players don't even need a reason to go after others to begin with.

I think, you can shoot NPCs in a private session.

I think, you can shoot NPCs in a private session. I dunno, it only say headshot-challenge in freemode on the newswire-article. For some reason I haven't even gotten the email yet.

It's a fun gimmick if you're in a solo session.

Meanwhile I got my 250k reward. Can be done completely in invite only session. Hardest part for me was finding the initial "treasure" because the area you have to investigate is quite big. It helped to recreate the picture you got via mail and looking in the same direction. You will look at the area where you'll find what you are searching for. I don't know if the first part is also random. Do it on foot, because it's tiny and you will probably notice it first by sound.

When you're nearing what you're looking for you'll hear jingle bells so keep your volume up. Also you get an awesome cool animation when you put the gun away!

You need to be logged in /signed up to social club and after 5-10 minutes of just messing around online (invite only is fine) you'll get an email to your in game phone

My first checkpoint (the note) was hidden in a river down near the vineyard. Yea find a piece of brown paper that's nearly invisible among a bunch of brown rocks. The fuck? They couldn't pin it on a tree or under the bridge or anywhere you might see it, no it was in the fucking rocks. I must been a good 30-40 minutes running/driving back and forth that jesus circle. A buddy told me the first clue was a note so I was checking tree's, bridges, buildings, anywhere a note might logically be pinned. And Rockstar had it hidden in the rocks the entire time. After I eventually found the bloody note, the other 3 checkpoints where easy. Got past that in no time, got the gun, and soon after the 250k.
