Top Gear Style Races
Little History/Background:
I've been fiddling with the creator a fair lot recently making lots and lots of stuff based on internet videos, however when I heard heists were coming out soon, with a genuine release date, I decided to actually put one of my dormant ideas to use. About 8 weeks ago I started and made 6, the update happened and 3 more came out of it with a couple updates after some play tests.

This is not a thread strictly for my creations, it is one for anyone willing to try their own hand at recreating the TG magic in GTA.
I am not trying to enforce my own standards for any other creations, I am providing my own guidelines for my own works here to apply to all of mine.
You may create your own TG event in your own way and your own console
NOTE!
Since I am a PS3 gamer, mine are unfortunately PS3 limited.
Also anyone with a YouTube account, I would love to see someone filming these events with Top Gear style editing, music, cam-angles and even some voice dubbing. I did make these inspired by the show so it would be fun to see that.
BASICS
The BBC hit show Top Gear has some amazing events and challenges which usually involve a car in a competition scenario of great and grand variety.
GTA Online has the potential to fulfil any fans need to re-enact many of these events, however due to the free nature of the gameplay, the car or any transport with relative high speed has overwhelming advantage.
As a result the only way to properly conduct these races is within the context of a mission, specifically a ‘Capture – Contend’ mission. And with each challenge varying in nature, each needs its own set of rules.
Without the creator mission environment and rules adjoining to each race, it all becomes chaos and really whatever closeness and competition and fun to be had within the scenario is lost to utter randomness and anarchy.
Hopefully the maturity and the sensibility of an organised player base allows for more adherence to these rules than entrusted to just randoms and trolls.
Basic Standard Rules:
To recreate a Top Gear Race Scenario these rules were made to ensure a close competition
General Rules
No killing or fighting or hurting each other
Use only vehicles provided by the race under its rules
If more than one are on a team, stick together as a group
General Car rules
Cars, unless specified otherwise are to stay on the roads.
Roads are defined by the maps and do not include: sidewalks dirt trails and jumps
Alleyways, parking lots and side-roads are also subject to specified use, but are generally assumed not to be used.
If a route is blocked it is not to be used
Usually barriers will block off a road, proceeding in this direction is no longer allowed.
Some barriers are barrier props, or even containers, however it should be recognised as a barrier regardless.
Special barriers include ramps and destructible barriers.
Destructible barriers (yellow and black) disallow continuation by cars and other specified vehicles.
They do allow for bikes, pedestrians and other competitors to pass through the blocked passage.
Destructible barrier rule supersedes the barrier rule when placed alongside each other, blocking the same route.
Ramps are one-way barriers
If a ramp is placed end on end, it counts as a one-way barrier until a specified condition is met as stated by the rules.
This is to ensure no back tracking over the ramps placed, be careful when using one.
General Non-Car Rules:
All means of competing are provided alongside instruction
Do not use any car unless rules specified
Some cars may be provided to complete certain stages, but are only allowed for that stage and to be abandoned before proceeding
Barriers also apply to routes taken by non-cars unless specified otherwise by the rules.
MISSIONS
Base:
Capture – Contend
The capture cases represent checkpoints that can only be grabbed by the respective team so there will be no confusion as to where each team will go.
There is a basic route that each team can follow, there may be some instruction provided by the rules for each team.
The cases are to be brought to the capture point acting as the finish
There are enough cases acting as checkpoints for successful finish, do not backtrack for cases that have respawned.

Triathlon

REAL Description:
This race takes both teams from the Vinewood mountain top to the Vineyard with three main modes of transport for each.
The Car team will drive a Benefactor Schafter to the Observatory and switch to an Ocelot Jackal across the mountain backroads where they will pass the Vineyard to a peaceful mountain retreat for the wealthy. Here they will make a final switch to a Enus Super Diamond and back track their route to the Vineyard where they will park the car, run around the back and finish.
The Triathletes will take a provided helicopter and rise to the platform where they will skydive and parachute their way to Sandy Shores hangar. A single Red and two Yellow Jackals are allowed to be used by the team at the Hangar, on the end of the Runway and at Route 68. [The Yellow Airfield and Route 68 cars are for stragglers who could not make it to the Hangar. They are Yellow for a reason] Take the car to the dock north of Sandy Shores and transfer to a Dinghy where they will go down the rapids and finally reach the River Banks North of the Vineyard where they will run up the hill to the finish, marked out by barriers.
Scenario Description:
In the mountain north of Los Santos lie the hills greenery and the various features within. Lakes, rapids, rivers and a maybe some water, people out here it seems to not only rid themselves of the horrendous curse of dryness and civilisation… but of the ground on which it’s built. And for those who seek the exact opposite of all of this, there’s hiking as well.
Several ways of being a part of the countryside then. But this North Los Santos, where the wealthy starlets go to have imported foreign wine, five star resort’slash’rehab centres, and lavatories made of Onyx. In reality the only way to enjoy this side of the hills is with a car that have sapphire jewellers charged with vagrancy, and the speed to out run them.
However, being an area with tax returns numbering in gold plated handbags, the selection of cars that fit these criteria is plentiful. So we choose three of them. These flagships of luxury performance will pit themselves against de-civilised adrenal glands with legs… and a heads… and maybe an arm or two.

Triathletes
Everyone is to board the starting initial Helicopter is taken to the first sky platform directly above the start point. The other is a spare in case of failed landings.
Once on the platform, abandon the helicopter and skydive to Sandy Shores.
The Red Car is the aim, all team members are to be inside before setting off.
The boats are taken down river where they will pick up the final package and run.

Switch cars at every new pickup point, cars must be switched before continuing

REAL Description:
Parkour and road race around Vinewood’s signature areas.
Cars drive around the Vinewood Mountain to the Observatory and back track down to the finish line.
Runners will follow the props and armour course to collect all the cases as fast as possible and finally bring all of them to the finish line.
Scenario Description:
Vinewood, star territory. Where the desire of having your presence immortalised to have people step on you requires melodrama and partial nudity. Here fabulous hotels and paparazzi motels boarder the area of world’s premiere movie theatre. Never in one area has there been so much stars, so much scandal, so much nose and ‘other’ jobs grabbed global sensationalist media attention than in these rented black-light lit rooms. As a tribute to the LS capital of luxury and hidden camera celebrity tapes we’re going to have a race between two of them. The star studded horsepower will be facing off against the mighty relentlessness of the paparazzi.
The stars will run over to a rumoured secret hub of stargazers known as an observatory. Here the stars photos aren’t accompanied with the internet tags ‘pregnant’ or ‘surgery’ where only certain rather than every title article contains the word ‘hole’.
The relentless scandal hounds in the meantime will hunt for their means of supporting themselves. This area is littered with evidence of previous paparazzi who’ve withered away on rooftops attempting to legitimately gain a topless celebrity shot through the windows. Before they head from one of their premier feeding grounds to the next, they’ll need to scavenge the equipment from their fallen brethren across their various stalking grounds.
Knowing that celebrity exposure is key to their personal success, after visiting their fans they will have to beat the paparazzi to their next story, lest they be called ‘yesterday’s news’.

Runners will follow the course of props collecting their cases and climbing buildings and occasionally jumping off hem to the next case before running to the goal

REAL Description:
A Muscle car will drive up the high road to its end and back down it to drive down the low road to its end and across a bridge to the other side of the Canyon. Driving around the back of the canyon to finally reach its high roads back to the bridge.
The Xtreme Sports Enthusiasts will take a plane from LSIA beaches to half-altitude area above Mount Chiliad. From there they skydive to its top to some BMX bikes and ride the track down and up the Canyon hills. Arriving at the canyon they ride the BMX off a ramp and sky dive to the final case and run to the end point at the bridge.

X-Athletes
They will take the plane(s) to the half altitude area over Mt. Chiliad and sky dive down the BMX bikes down the trails. Skipping the trail ‘S-bend’ will result in a STATIONARY 5sec penalty. Trail jumps are legal for use.
Participants must stick to the trail up the mountain again until the end point.
Once a parachute is collected, the participants MUST go off the jump on their BMX.
Once parachuted to the final case, the remainder is a run to the bridge end point.
Cars
Cars will drive up the high road first and ignore the first junction and proceed straight forward.
When the car heads back to the same junction they will take a right to the low road.
The car will then cross the bridge and ramp (a one-way barrier) to the other side and continue up the road through the tunnel on the dirt road and trails to the high road on the other side of the canyon.
Once at the end of the trail, the cars can drive around the jumps and back on to the bridge to the end point.

People often use muscle cars on dirt roads, so I figured we’ll race them that way

Race around the between a Boat and Car
Dinghy team will collect the four cases around the West Coastline and proceed to the end of the pier where a small ladder will allow them to climb up to the finish line.
Car team will race around the outback and the hills through to the city and finally to the pier end finish line.

Cars will drive around the map against a team of planes and boats
Planes will take off to the area around the lighthouse and skydive to an island with the next case and Mallards. Mallards will fly around to over the Land Action Dam airspace and parachute down to the next case and the LS River where Dinghy boats will be to collect the cases down the rivers of South LS. After collecting them, the boats will head to beach around the airport where Mallards will be to fly over the observatory to skydive to the finish atop the observatory roof.
Cars will drive down the road and dirt trails to the collect the cases around the country and city to the finish point at the Observatory.

BMX v Compact

REAL Description:
Cars and BMX will head down separate path on the roads and alleyways around the city to the finish point at the North and South points of Legion Square.
BMX will head down barrier restricted areas and up several marked out jumps. After reaching the park, there are jumps in a parking lot that will allow the BMX to skip through the block and to another passage through a block to a local apartment complex. Going through some jumps (hopping required) through a small plaza and into a central pool area, exiting through the right to the roads. Reaching the centre of the city, the BMX will have to take the left stair/ramps across a footbridge to the Maze Bank Plaza. Jumping from the Maze Bank Plaza to the FIB Plaza, the BMX will have to go around the building to collect the final package and final jump to the finish
Cars will drive through Alleyways, Parking lots and the Movie studio collecting packages to the finish point at Legion Square.

REAL Description:
A race around the back hills of Skydivers against SUVs to a farm finish point.
Skydivers will take helicopters up to sky platforms above them to take cases and skydive to the next case under another sky platform.
At each of the sky platforms here is a helicopter and case underneath to fly up to them, where sky divers will collect another case. From there they will jump and repeat these steps until the final jump to finish point.
SUVs will remain mainly on dirt roads obeying barriers and making a massive lap around the finish point. DO NOT TAKE THE FIRST JUMP, it is a one-way barrier that will lead to the finish point leading to the farm house drive way.

A race of three car types against three transport types across vast areas of Urban LS to finish at the Observatory.
Athletes
Starting from the Maze Bank to parachute to the LS River and use boats to collect cases along the river systems. Leading to another case at the end of the Pier to switch to race bikes across the city and up the hills to the finish.
Cars will race to different points of the city obeying barriers and switching cars as they collect cases from the Stadium parking lot to the pier, to Franklin’s 2nd House and around Vinewood Mountain to the observatory.

A Rapid rider and Rally team will race around the west Alamo Sea area to a finish point on the North river bank just before Lago Zancudo under the Airbase access bridge.
Rapid rider team will parachute off a bridge to boats below them and collect cases down the river and around the edge of the Alamo Sea until finally heading down river rapids leading to the Zancudo access Bridge.
Rallyists will drive from a dirt road by a Farm to Harmony off Route 68 by dirt mountain roads to the Farm’s rear to collect the cases there and in between. After collecting the case they cars will drive up to another dirt road towards Zancudo access bridge to across it and make their way to the river banks to finish.

REAL Description:
A race from the Land Act Dam to an Apartment for the Stars near the Movie studio.
Phoenix team will drive down the road to Mirror Park and turn right to collect their first case and lap the man-made lake to the bridge to Legion Square. From there they will head north and cross over to the casino and collect the case there. Continuing towards the Vinewood Sign Mountain and through the Rockford Hill Mansions to the Rockford Shopping District, and finally through a hotel driveway to the finish point.
Cycle team will head to the bridge to Legion Square immediately and head North to City Hall and across to the Golf Course Area to collect a case directly north of Rockford Shopping District and staying by the gold course to collect another case accessed through side roads to a hotel entrance. From there it is advised to go North-West to another side road for a beach view hotel and southward to Magestic. Cutting through Magestic for the final case, the Cyclists head toward the finish point via Weazel Plaza driveway.

REAL Description:
2 Lap race around the Canyon
Both teams start at the same location and proceed down the road to the parking space, marked by two parked SUVs
The teams will run to the marked area where they will collect their cases, a parachute and a sniper rifle.
They will snipe enemies guarding the next case (armed with MP5s) and parachute to their respective SUVs.
(the enemy will respawn once, they are optional kills if felt they can be ignored)
Continuing down the trail there will be a single optional case for either team down the bridge.
Past the bridge there is a drive-in space on a corner with a case.
Driving down the road back to the start point to finish the first lap.

Baller is to drive around the swamp and collect enough cases avoiding tank fire until it makes it past the Access Bridge and onto the road to the finish.

Also I’m still working on this thread since I was impatient and got sick of having this all here without posting it, so if this feel incomplete, it is.

As its creator I have tested the time for the fastest route I imagined for each event to be roughly similar for each team when following the rules. There is some bias for the non-car team as I know I am not the best driver of a maximum of 10-14 seconds, depending on conditions of the race. This may seem enormous but the approximate finishing time for these events all hover around the 8-12 minute range with errors on each team costing as much time, thus keeping it fair. This was also made to ensure replayability remains closely competitive.
I re-watched the first 20 seasons for inspiration and to scale replication ability and I still have some ideas what to do, but all this was my interpretation, it isn’t necessarily the most accurate recreation.

Alleyways, parking lots and side-roads are also subject to specified use, but are generally assumed not to be used.
If a route is blocked it is not to be used
Usually barriers will block off a road, proceeding in this direction is no longer allowed.
Some barriers are barrier props, or even containers, however it should be recognised as a barrier regardless.
Special barriers include ramps and destructible barriers.
Destructible barriers (yellow and black) disallow continuation by cars and other specified vehicles.
They do allow for bikes, pedestrians and other competitors to pass through the blocked passage.
Destructible barrier rule supersedes the barrier rule when placed alongside each other, blocking the same route.
Ramps are one-way barriers
If a ramp is placed end on end, it counts as a one-way barrier until a specified condition is met as stated by the rules.
This is to ensure no back tracking over the ramps placed, be careful when using one.

Triathlon

REAL Description:
This race takes both teams from the Vinewood mountain top to the Vineyard with three main modes of transport for each.
The Car team will drive a Benefactor Schafter to the Observatory and switch to an Ocelot Jackal across the mountain backroads where they will pass the Vineyard to a peaceful mountain retreat for the wealthy. Here they will make a final switch to a Enus Super Diamond and back track their route to the Vineyard where they will park the car, run around the back and finish.
The Triathletes will take a provided helicopter and rise to the platform where they will skydive and parachute their way to Sandy Shores hangar. A single Red and two Yellow Jackals are allowed to be used by the team at the Hangar, on the end of the Runway and at Route 68. [The Yellow Airfield and Route 68 cars are for stragglers who could not make it to the Hangar. They are Yellow for a reason] Take the car to the dock north of Sandy Shores and transfer to a Dinghy where they will go down the rapids and finally reach the River Banks North of the Vineyard where they will run up the hill to the finish, marked out by barriers.
Scenario Description:
In the mountain north of Los Santos lie the hills greenery and the various features within. Lakes, rapids, rivers and a maybe some water, people out here it seems to not only rid themselves of the horrendous curse of dryness and civilisation… but of the ground on which it’s built. And for those who seek the exact opposite of all of this, there’s hiking as well.
Several ways of being a part of the countryside then. But this North Los Santos, where the wealthy starlets go to have imported foreign wine, five star resort’slash’rehab centres, and lavatories made of Onyx. In reality the only way to enjoy this side of the hills is with a car that have sapphire jewellers charged with vagrancy, and the speed to out run them.
However, being an area with tax returns numbering in gold plated handbags, the selection of cars that fit these criteria is plentiful. So we choose three of them. These flagships of luxury performance will pit themselves against de-civilised adrenal glands with legs… and a heads… and maybe an arm or two.

Parkour and road race around Vinewood’s signature areas.
Cars drive around the Vinewood Mountain to the Observatory and back track down to the finish line.
Runners will follow the props and armour course to collect all the cases as fast as possible and finally bring all of them to the finish line.
Scenario Description:
Vinewood, star territory. Where the desire of having your presence immortalised to have people step on you requires melodrama and partial nudity. Here fabulous hotels and paparazzi motels boarder the area of world’s premiere movie theatre. Never in one area has there been so much stars, so much scandal, so much nose and ‘other’ jobs grabbed global sensationalist media attention than in these rented black-light lit rooms. As a tribute to the LS capital of luxury and hidden camera celebrity tapes we’re going to have a race between two of them. The star studded horsepower will be facing off against the mighty relentlessness of the paparazzi.
The stars will run over to a rumoured secret hub of stargazers known as an observatory. Here the stars photos aren’t accompanied with the internet tags ‘pregnant’ or ‘surgery’ where only certain rather than every title article contains the word ‘hole’.
The relentless scandal hounds in the meantime will hunt for their means of supporting themselves. This area is littered with evidence of previous paparazzi who’ve withered away on rooftops attempting to legitimately gain a topless celebrity shot through the windows. Before they head from one of their premier feeding grounds to the next, they’ll need to scavenge the equipment from their fallen brethren across their various stalking grounds.
Knowing that celebrity exposure is key to their personal success, after visiting their fans they will have to beat the paparazzi to their next story, lest they be called ‘yesterday’s news’.

A Muscle car will drive up the high road to its end and back down it to drive down the low road to its end and across a bridge to the other side of the Canyon. Driving around the back of the canyon to finally reach its high roads back to the bridge.
The Xtreme Sports Enthusiasts will take a plane from LSIA beaches to half-altitude area above Mount Chiliad. From there they skydive to its top to some BMX bikes and ride the track down and up the Canyon hills. Arriving at the canyon they ride the BMX off a ramp and sky dive to the final case and run to the end point at the bridge.

They will take the plane(s) to the half altitude area over Mt. Chiliad and sky dive down the BMX bikes down the trails. Skipping the trail ‘S-bend’ will result in a STATIONARY 5sec penalty. Trail jumps are legal for use.
Participants must stick to the trail up the mountain again until the end point.
Once a parachute is collected, the participants MUST go off the jump on their BMX.
Once parachuted to the final case, the remainder is a run to the bridge end point.
Cars
Cars will drive up the high road first and ignore the first junction and proceed straight forward.
When the car heads back to the same junction they will take a right to the low road.
The car will then cross the bridge and ramp (a one-way barrier) to the other side and continue up the road through the tunnel on the dirt road and trails to the high road on the other side of the canyon.
Once at the end of the trail, the cars can drive around the jumps and back on to the bridge to the end point.

BMX v Compact

Cars and BMX will head down separate path on the roads and alleyways around the city to the finish point at the North and South points of Legion Square.
BMX will head down barrier restricted areas and up several marked out jumps. After reaching the park, there are jumps in a parking lot that will allow the BMX to skip through the block and to another passage through a block to a local apartment complex. Going through some jumps (hopping required) through a small plaza and into a central pool area, exiting through the right to the roads. Reaching the centre of the city, the BMX will have to take the left stair/ramps across a footbridge to the Maze Bank Plaza. Jumping from the Maze Bank Plaza to the FIB Plaza, the BMX will have to go around the building to collect the final package and final jump to the finish

Skydivers will take helicopters up to sky platforms above them to take cases and skydive to the next case under another sky platform.
At each of the sky platforms here is a helicopter and case underneath to fly up to them, where sky divers will collect another case. From there they will jump and repeat these steps until the final jump to finish point.
SUVs will remain mainly on dirt roads obeying barriers and making a massive lap around the finish point. DO NOT TAKE THE FIRST JUMP, it is a one-way barrier that will lead to the finish point leading to the farm house drive way.

Rapid rider team will parachute off a bridge to boats below them and collect cases down the river and around the edge of the Alamo Sea until finally heading down river rapids leading to the Zancudo access Bridge.
Rallyists will drive from a dirt road by a Farm to Harmony off Route 68 by dirt mountain roads to the Farm’s rear to collect the cases there and in between. Phoenix team will drive down the road to Mirror Park and turn right to collect their first case and lap the man-made lake to the bridge to Legion Square. Continuing towards the Vinewood Sign Mountain and through the Rockford Hill Mansions to the Rockford Shopping District, and finally through a hotel driveway to the finish point.
Cycle team will head to the bridge to Legion Square immediately and head North to City Hall and across to the Golf Course Area to collect a case directly north of Rockford Shopping District and staying by the gold course to collect another case accessed through side roads to a hotel entrance. From there it is advised to go North-West to another side road for a beach view hotel and southward to Magestic. Cutting through Magestic for the final case, the Cyclists head toward the finish point via Weazel Plaza driveway.

Also I’m still working on this thread since I was impatient and got sick of having this all here without posting it, so if this feel incomplete, it is.

As its creator I have tested the time for the fastest route I imagined for each event to be roughly similar for each team when following the rules. There is some bias for the non-car team as I know I am not the best driver of a maximum of 10-14 seconds, depending on conditions of the race. This may seem enormous but the approximate finishing time for these events all hover around the 8-12 minute range with errors on each team costing as much time, thus keeping it fair. This was also made to ensure replayability remains closely competitive.
I re-watched the first 20 seasons for inspiration and to scale replication ability and I still have some ideas what to do, but all this was my interpretation, it isn’t necessarily the most accurate recreation.
