Yeah they will probably have a figure against each account on how much illegitimate gta$ they think that account has received If they had the possibilities to detect this cheated money, then they should have taken the actions when the issue occurred. Not wait months, adjust all ingame prices to unbelievable heights because of all the modded money and once we're at a level, where the content of a DLC is way above $100 in shark cars worth, then they suddenly remove the money. I personally didn't get any modded money ever afaik, besides one time just after the T20 was released (I bought it in part with that). Can barely have been a million. Rockstar decided nonetheless to remove 3.5 mil right now and leave me with 130k. I grinded way too much to get that money and I was already sick of it. The game is a mesmerizing grind right now if you want to keep halfway up with the content release and don't play 20h+ per week. I'm not willing to succumb to these methods and therefore just uninstalled my game. There's better ways to have fun in life. Okay, that's interesting. I also didn't ever get too much money from hackers so if they took much more than these 3M I'd be calling bs. And if I wasn't as involved in this community and didn't have the amount of stuff already ingame I wouldn't want to get into something like GTA. They made a lackluster game both in enjoyment and it's technical state but it attracted some really good people.

I reckon they maybe didn't have the ability to do this before GR, but tbe modders forced their hand in the run up to GR when it was a modfest shit-show in almost every lobby. So they wrote some script to detect all illegitimate $ in every account going back in history and now they're clawing it all back. Then they run the script a week or so before any upcoming DLC to make sure people aren't buying the new shiny things with illegitimate $, no doubt this pattern will continue with any future DLC too.

And what happened before gunrunning? They may have removed what they could before gunrunning but that may not have been enough to break even with the amount of modded cash given to you before. Yeah they will probably have a figure against each account on how much illegitimate gta$ they think that account has received, then with each of these waves of money adjustments they will take either all of the illegitimate $ (if there's enough $ in the bank), or a high percentage of whatever money is in that bank account. So my guess is that if you're only left with a small amount (like a couple hundred k), then they probably aren't finished with you yet and you can expect to lose more $ the next time they do it. A decent hypothesis. However... Prior to GR, they removed 3 millions from me. Those 3 millions were modded however, so it was fair game. But I still had 8+millions in my bank account. So if they really were removing all the modded money, they'd have taken the 3 millions from then plus the 3 millions from now, I'd still have had 2 millions left. The thing is, they didn't, and took away 3 legitimately earned millions from me now (and many other players), so this hypothesis is invalid. I just can't wait to see them putting a sale on shark cards.

So they wrote some script to detect all illegitimate $ in every account going back in history and now they're clawing it all back. Modders were way more of a problem way before that time. So if it was possible to counteract it, it should've been done then, not now that it's too late. But ok, fair enough. Then they run the script a week or so before any upcoming DLC And here's exactly the problem that I have with it. If in RL you get some ill-gotten grains, you'll get convicted (given any limitation period has not expired - which I feel would be the case here, but that's a different issue), you'll have to pay the stuff back, you'll file bankruptcy and after that's done, you start anew. If I have to be prepared that R* takes the money "back" whenever I got some again until they feel the deed is done, then that's leaving a really bitter aftertaste. Plus, that for every money-modder in the game, I have encountered dozens of those that used mods to grief people. That ruined public lobbies for months. How about setting that right retrospectively? Yeah, won't happen. To be fair, my frustration with this stems only in a small part from the money that has been taken and is way more based on the fact that I don't enjoy the way money is being made in the game any more. If I play the game like I enjoy it to (which is racing for DNFs), I will never earn the money to even buy a bicycle. And I am fed up with playing the game just to grind money. Whether it's crates, cars or supply runs, it meanwhile feels all the same, I've done every mission plenty of times and there's just no fun in it any more. And now that R* has decided to drain the modded money but not to adjust the game economy back to balanced levels, I feel they're addressing the problem in a way that's way too convenient for them, and not good enough for me. Hence I as a player take the only measure I can, and quit playing along.

Ok, ^ that's interesting, and yeah it does disprove my theory...who knows what's going on then, maybe it is actually some buggy script which is just randomly taking arbitrary sums out of people's accounts. There's people on other forums who have lost like 8 and 9 figure sums of money...if they can't specifically target the actual cheaters they shouldn't target anyone imo

I just can't be arsed to farm all that money back again. After all this grinding, after sweating blood to get that damn Criminal Mastermind Challenge done, spamming resupply runs and I/E missions. I'll wait a bit to see if they reply to my ticket (even though I highly doubt they will), and depending on the outcome, I'll uninstall the game. I'm just done with their terrible business model, terrible communication, terrible way to handle things on a daily basis.

Luckily didn't lose my money. I haven't got modded money for like two years now.
But even without losing my money I'm so sick of all of this. I can't look at heists anymore. Only crates/car deliveries are very slightly fun to me but only with friends.
I have to sell some cars to buy some others that I can use in events, events that I love to race in. I will never get to play with the fun rocket bike or these planes.
After MCEC ends, I'm just going to ask a modder for money and if they drain my money, well I'll just ask a modder again. If they ban me for some reason (which is the reason I'm waiting for now), then fuck this game.

From what I can see on this thread we are on PC, though the Rockstar support forums also show some people on other platforms being affected. Dunno what's worth since they are random, but they've no reason to lie.

Well, I haven't gotten any modded money for more than 2 years now. I only got a little bit when the game started, now tell me who did not... But 14 million that they took away from me? Bullshit. They just left me with 40k and basically said grind again you moron. Already made up 2 million since then. Can't wait to loose all my money again before the next DLC. Anyway, I finally got the answer from support and it still says the same. They don't give a shit about what they've done. But still, I hope they will do something when so many innocent players have contacted them...
