I understand a lot of us don't find value or fun in doing 2 person races but when no one is on or accepting invites, sometimes you just have to race short-handed. A way to make this more entertaining is to wait for each other when 1 chokes. This keeps you in a constant battle, both improving your racing skills and it's fun as hell. Ever been in a 2-3 hour long battle across multiple races with another driver? It's great, and all you have to do is just wait for the other person if they crash, spin out, or whatever. Forget about lap times and work on improving your overtaking and defending. Obviously both parties need to agree on this, or simply just let it happen by waiting for them and see if they return the favor when you choke.
Thoughts?

It's something I've done/had done to me before when racing in a 2-player race, and it is far more fun to do it this way than do multiple laps out in front on your own.

It's so simple... Why has no one said this before? Genius idea

It's so simple... Why has no one said this before? Genius idea I'm sure people have done it before but AKA Lane and I started doing it while racing alone and I've already noticed a massive improvement in my consistency and composure. I've also gotten into some sick battles in normal races since then that I never would have been able to before.

Yeah, totally this.
What's the etiquette on who gets to win though? I used to just let whoever slows down win, but maybe I could have beat them if they didn't slow down?

I'm not sure but usually it's pretty clear by the end who should get the win, (by how many times the other person had to stop and wait) or just play out the final lap like a standard race.

Depends on my mood but most of the time I wait in 1 in 1 races.

Depends on my mood but most of the time I wait in 1 in 1 races. In a longer playlist... Split the wins the best ya can. Both can get something out of it. With only 2 in a race, might as well just work on lines overtakes and such. Bragging rights for the hot lap as well.

I've had this done to me a few times when I've made major mistakes in shorthanded races but to be honest, I would get quite offended as it looked like a patronising/mocking gesture, as if the other person is saying "I'm so much better than you, I'll just give you a head start to give myself a challenge" After reading this thread, I'm happy to learn that it's a matter of etiquette and trying to get the most out of a shorthanded race rather than anyone patronising a weaker racer but in all honesty, if someone is better than me (and that group includes everyone on Nodo to be fair) I'd much rather they just annihilated me, the number of absolute hammerings I've had since joining Nodo has really improved my driving and racing immensely as it's given me a real drive and determination to improve and learn from better racers. tl;dr: if you're in a one on one race with me, just beat me

I can definitely see how some would find it patronizing. I hadn't even considered that.
