I was playing with MrPenguin_87 (UNERGROUND3000) the other day, when I noticed he was using something other than his PS3 to send messages over PSN. I've never heard of it before, but he was using the (official) PlayStation App. It works just like What'sApp, but with your PSN contacts. You can also start conversations with multiple players. I find it much easier and faster to send messages with my phone instead of using the ps3. Especially if you want to send a quick message (like: "Hey you forgot to turn off traffic!" or so) when in a racelobby, there's often no time enough before the timer runs out to do it via the console. This would also be very handy for group conversations during events in the pre-lobby. Apparantly not many people have this app (yet) as I've never seen anybody use it before, so you guys might wanna check it out. (Links are copied from the Dutch site, so if they don't work just Google "PlayStation App" and you should find it easyily.) Credit where credit's due. Thanks to MrPenguin_87 (UNERGROUND3000) for pointing it out to me. Let me know what you guys think. Would you use it?

I had the app months ago but back then it was only useful when linked to a PS4. It had basically no features for PS3 and I couldn't even send or view messages on it. I'm glad they have updated it to sync with my PS3 now...it is an app that is actually deserving of space on my phone.
Thanks for mentioning it on here @kobo_043, I will be re-downloading it immediately!

The Playstation site does make it come across like it's ment for PS4, but I only have a PS3 and ik works like a charm. Maybe I can't use all features off the app, but idc 'cause I only use it for messages. Not really interested in the rest.

When it first came out it was definitely intended for PS4 only. For PS3 I could only look at my profile and my friends profile and trophies etc but that was about it.
Currently, it doesn't show the messages I already have on my console (I assume that is because you don't sync the console you only sync the account?), and I haven't sent any messages from it yet but I assume that works perfectly between PS3s seeing as you seem to do it perfectly fine.
The messaging was the reason I downloaded it in the first place all those months ago. The on-console messaging is so painfully slow and I always have my phone nearby so it makes perfect sense!

It doesn't sync old messages. But I believe it does sync messages when sent from the app. Not sure though, haven't checked. I'll have a look at it later today.

It syncs what you receive, not what you send.
