I figured that since I've spent so much time creating some of my own races, that I would post them here for people to maybe check out. I am open to suggestions, as long as you understand where I am coming from when I create a race (in general)...
My Approach to Creating Races:
When I create a race, I tend to have a "GTA" mindset in that I think of most as unsanctioned, illegal street races (with some inspiration from chase scenes in movies like Bullitt). This is why I tend to not use a lot of course-defining prop placements or blocking off of lamp posts or corner cuts. Usually, the road surface and curbs define the course of the track. This also allows for traffic to be turned on, for the true GTA street racing experience, in most of my races. Turn on wanted levels and set it as a GTA race for the true "GTA" experience. Generally, as long as you stay on the road (or maybe just touch the curb), you will hit my check points.
I tend toward high-speed courses that allow one to test the top speed of their vehicle over a long stretch before going into a hair-pin or a generally tighter section with turns. I also like tracks that loop around on themselves so there is the potential to be sharing some sections with faster or slower racers. Occasionally, there may be a natural jump (aka. not a ramp prop) or a cross-over. Often there are spots where some might enter and/or exit straight, left or right depending on where they are on their individual laps (think GT1, GT2, GT3).
I like to make long tracks that sometimes stretch the boundaries of placing 68 check points. 8 minute races with at least 20 check points maximize cash payouts (4 min/20 CP for max RP), so anything over 8 minutes is kind of a waste as far as in-game payout
Anyway, I hope you'll try some or all of these out. If so, I look forward to one day losing some races to... I mean racing with you on them.
If you have any feedback, I will consider it.
