Niko because out of all of them, his story is the only one that's believable.

I'd have to pick Niko, for the same reasons as mentioned by driftin, Renegade1911 and Ser Tandur.
His character and story felt more 'real.' His trials were more personal, and so were his flaws and past wrong-doings. This meant that his story was more believable and one could sympathise with him more than the other characters.

I loved Niko as well, but to be honest I think his whole story would fit better in a game other than GTA. By that I mean a game where it is frowned upon to kill civilians, because the way I see it, Niko doesn't want to kill people, he does what he has to do to get by and especially at the end of the story he realizes what a monster (and a hypocrite depending on some of your choices in the game.) he has become. The story was definitely the best in a GTA game, I loved it, but it doesn't make sense that in a game where most people just go on rampages killing hundreds of civilians, you have a protagonist that doesn't like killing people unless he needs to (Again, depending on if you chose to spare people's lives.).
So for this question I picked Tommy, just because he doesn't care as much about killing people as Niko or other protagonists do. He's a bit of a physco, but unlike Trevor, I didn't hate his guts throughout the entire game. Tommy was more charming and funny I guess... And I hated Trevor because of what he did when you meet him. You all know what I'm talking about...

Mid1010, CJ is just like that aswell.. CJ doesn't like to kill people, he has a heart and he is one of the most coolest characters in GTA series..
But, the best one, the most funny, the most annoying is a person called Roman Bellic.

I love Trevor! A close second would be CJ. Trevor is just a loose rebel who is really easy to get into a roleplay with in this game. I love how he wakes up drunk and naked on train tracks or in a tennis court or sometimes he is being pursued by cops. He also has a softer emotional side especially with women but also with Michael. I preferred Michael my entire 1st playthrough but after the ending (in which I killed Trevor the 1st time) I realized I like Trevor way more.

Never played any GTA before GTAV so I can't really judge, but out of V my favourite has to be Trevor, such a character, how could you not like him?

Not really attracted to any of the GTA V characters really. Trevor is a psycho that needs putting down, Franklin is a money whore and Michael is a shit dad. Lamar is the only one who I really liked.
Had to vote for Niko as his sense of humour is really funny and half the time he doesn't even know it. Really good character, and like someone else said, his story is more believable than any of the others.

(GTA '5 ONLY' ANSWER)
Trevor because he lives completely without ego. i thought franklin was a douche and michael is anxious about everything because hes so worried about doing things the right way in the eyes of society (as opposed to himself). and what was he doing taking back his cheating wife? id be gone in a second whether i was bangin strippers or not. (proven! lol!) trevors the only one who knows and understands himself and is completely honest with himself.
