So, as promised, some pointers and clarifications.
OvertakingHearing a comment that suggested someone was in the wrong because their car was in the way of a usual race line is disappointing. The hotlap mentality has no place in a race, which is again why people need to learn to adapt and learn racecraft over pure pace. Speed is less valuable than consistency.
Let me show you the kind of overtake I could only really try on a small number of people here:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCKILnnohUsKimi knows he's lost the position there, and doesn't turn in on Ricciardo because "that's my line". If someone puts their car on the inside of a turn, it's not a divebomb - it's a late braking overtake and if you go to turn in and a car is there, you have to avoid missing it.
For the avoidance of any doubt, all of Section 20 of the 2015 F1 rules apply for SATCC going forward:
20) DRIVING
20.1 The driver must drive the car alone and unaided.
20.2 Drivers must use the track at all times. For the avoidance of doubt the white lines defining the track edges are considered to be part of the track but the kerbs are not.
A driver will be judged to have left the track if no part of the car remains in contact with the track.
Should a car leave the track the driver may re-join, however, this may only be done when it is safe to do so and without gaining any lasting advantage. At the absolute discretion of the race director a driver may be given the opportunity to give back the whole of any advantage he gained by leaving the track.
A driver may not deliberately leave the track without justifiable reason.
20.3 More than one change of direction to defend a position is not permitted. Any driver moving back towards the racing line, having earlier defended his position off-line, should leave at least one car width between his own car and the edge of the track on the approach to the corner.
20.4 Any driver defending his position on a straight, and before any braking area, may use the full width of the track during his first move, provided no significant portion of the car attempting to pass is alongside his. Whilst defending in this way the driver may not leave the track without justifiable reason.
For the avoidance of doubt, if any part of the front wing of the car attempting to pass is alongside the rear wheel of the car in front this will be deemed to be a ‘significant portion’. 20.5 Manoeuvres liable to hinder other drivers, such as deliberate crowding of a car beyond the edge of the track or any other abnormal change of direction, are not permitted.
20.6 As soon as a car is caught by another car which is about to lap it during the race the driver
must allow the faster driver past at the first available opportunity. If the driver who has been
caught does not allow the faster driver past, waved blue flags will be shown to indicate that he
must allow the following driver to overtake.
For 20.4, the front wheels of the overtaking car are the reference point for SATCC, in lieu of front wings. So if my front wheels are past your back wheels...
ReservesReserves are to be confirmed by 48hrs before the race starts. The FIA's F1 rules state that "
During a season each team will be permitted to use four drivers. Changes may be made at any time before the start of the qualifying practice session provided any change proposed after 16.00 on the day of scrutineering receives the consent of the stewards."
We don't run qualifying sessions and the assumption in F1 is that reserve drivers know the rules and tracks from simulator prep. We can't make that assumption here so if you nominate a reserve they need to be up to speed on cars, tracks, and rules.
I take Madderose's point but I think unless we have fixed team reserves we need to keep it at 48hrs.
DesyncLiving where we do, there's going to be issues with connectivity. Sending data to Asia, Australia, even from Europe to the US, will result in issues. We are looking to find the best host we can for future races, though this was particularly bad.
I had several instances where I'd be turning in, hit by one car, and four others would finish me off. Yes, I'm talking about the guys I was battling in Montreal... If we can stablise the overall connection between drivers a bit better, I still think a lag crash should warrant waiting in the same way if I hit you with lag I wait. When I am on my line and I see someone's minimap dot stop, and I look back and they're spinning about, I ask did I hit you and I wait because I probably did.
I believe in future lag should be factored in and not treated as an excuse for unsporting behaviour.
Future tracks
Is there a benefit in pushing Cluck'in Bell, or are we confident people can race it with respect and maturity?
We didn't have big lag issues last time for it...
