Hey guys, anyone paying 12 dollars a month and playing iRacing? :-P Just wondering... Let me know, maybe we can get something started here, too.

I have done some iRacing, but was over it really quick by the fact that its so expensive to race other classes than the first one. Buying new tracks and cars on top of a monthly fee is too much for me.

There are a lot of things I think are horribly broken/reasons to complain in iRacing but cost is not one of them. Treated as a game where "winning" means getting an A license as quickly as possible it is EXTREMELY expensive. Treated more like RL where "winning" means winning a championship it is still moderately expensive but not extremely expensive. Expensive yes but not as much as sometimes portrayed: - Lots of veterans find the best racing in the lower classes, Spec Racer Ford for example, so a free car and some free tracks. Unfortunately people tend to not figure this out till racing the upper classes only to return to the lower classes (as stated in the video link).
- Veteran racers tend to have one primary car and one series they focus winning a championship in. So while the initial investment is high the recurring costs can be fairly low unless switching series frequently.
- People publish spreadsheets used to minimize track costs so with careful planning and buying (core tracks like Road America and Watkins Glen for example) it is possible to avoid spending money inefficiently when mixing or moving series.
- Not all the tracks are actually needed to contend for a championship as four weeks are dropped. Or eight of twelve tracks as a bare minimum are required. Which is where the spreadsheet above comes in handy, some tracks are just not worth purchasing for how little they are used.
- There are $45 credits (max) returned annually, $40 for participation and $5 for loyalty. Potentially almost half of an annual subscription cost is returned. By renewing on Black Friday (also possibly combining with other promotions through the year) cost is even lower. I have paid as little as $5 a year for subscription after applying credits.
Free car, free track, free fun?
